Thanks for the detailed information obtained by The Verge, today we confirm previously leaked details as Sony gears up to unveil the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro, codenamed "Trinity." According to insider reports, Sony is urging developers to optimize their games for the PS5 Pro, with a primary focus on enhancing ray tracing capabilities. The console is expected to feature an RDNA 3 GPU with 30 WGP running BVH8, capable of 33.5 TeraFLOPS of FP32 single-precision computing power, and a slightly quicker CPU running at 3.85 GHz, enabling it to render games with ray tracing enabled or achieve higher resolutions and frame rates in select titles. Sony anticipates GPU rendering on the PS5 Pro to be approximately 45 percent faster than the standard PlayStation 5. The PS5 Pro GPU will be larger and utilize faster system memory to bolster ray tracing performance, boasting up to three times the speed of the regular PS5.

Additionally, the console will employ a more powerful ray tracing architecture, backed by PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), allowing developers to leverage graphics features like ray tracing more extensively. To support this endeavor, Sony is providing developers with test kits, and all games submitted for certification from August onward must be compatible with the PS5 Pro. Insider Gaming, the first to report the full PS5 Pro specs, suggests a potential release during the 2024 holiday period. The PS5 Pro will also feature modifications for developers regarding system memory, with Sony increasing the memory bandwidth from 448 GB/s to 576 GB/s, enhancing efficiency for an even more immersive gaming experience. To do AI processing, there is an custom AI accelerator capable of 300 8-bit INT8 TOPS and 67 16-bit FP16 TeraFLOPS, in addition to ACV audio codec running up to 35% faster.

Not a significant improvement and is kind of pointless when your system has NO GAMES.

The rumor is Sony wants the ps5 pro to be the premiere place to play grand theft auto 6.
Chances are it’ll be on console exclusive for a year. So if you want to play gta 6 at the best possible resolutions you need a ps5 pro.
Oh no, a full year! Whatever will I play on my PC for that whole twelve months of no GTA VI?
It's because of this and TAA being shit that I can't even play modern indie games anymore because they are all unreal slop which has forced TAA and in UE5 has forced upscaling. I can disable all that stuff with config editing but then the game looks like hot shit because nobody knows how to develop a game to look proper without any upscaling or TAA anymore because unreal just blurs it up and covers all their lack of care. The industry has gone to shit, and indies are going the same way with how every one of them is just a copy of something else that was successful. It's all so tiresome.

Rant over.
I am generally a kind and forgiving person but whoever invented TAA needs to be die, horribly, painfully, and in a fire that leaves constant ghosting trails.

after the stellar blade-helldivers fiasco sony has no goodwill to fuck around with the biggest launch in video game history. it will run well on base ps5. it has to.

This is starting to remind me of the Sega Genesis/CD/32X/Saturn fiasco. How many of these systems is Sony going to support concurrently and will the games be compatible?

This sort of thing (and a bad Yen) is what killed Sega as a console manufacturer.

This take might be spicy to some but after the fucking trashfire that was 5 I don't care. GTA died with 4. Rockstar can suck my nuts.
Might work on your typical console consoomer though, assuming they have the money to buy it, and I think that's a bigger assumption than most are expecting.
I would say GTA died with the ps2 myself, San Andreas was the last one that didn't have its head up its own ass. But I respect the perspective, especially after the Housers peaced out after releasing the glorified tech demo that was RD2.

My PC can play the gamecube games of my childhood in 4k. The PS5 cannot. Why would would I waste money on a paper weight that has no games? You can't even port the Star Wars Battlefront Games without fucking that up. What even is the point of modern consoles outside of replacing a ghetto kid's dad?

Oh and uh, why can microsoft find a way to let you download xbox/xbox360 games on GamePass games but Sony can't for PSNow?

That's not a problem if there isn't any games. I gave up on consoles after my PS4 was basically a paperweight that I would turn on to play MLB: The Show.

It seriously seems that console gaming is on life support. The only one who seems to have enough pull in the industry to where they'll never die (or die much harder) is Nintendo with their glut of exclusive IPs and marketing to a more casual fan base.

Being a Sony fan boy since the first PlayStation, the PS5 is the first PlayStation system that I have never once felt like I'm missing anything and have never desired to have at any point, as most of anything I play is on PC at this point. My PS4 has been turned on maybe twice in the last 6 months. It's sad to think of with all the years of fun and memories I've had with the PlayStation line over the years, but I think my desire for consoles (besides Nintendo) has hit its end.

The only game I've seen on PS5 that caught my interest was Stellar Blade, and we know the shitshow with the censorship and whatnot. Even then, I wasn't that interested to where I was willing to buy a whole console for it.

I can't even remember the last game for a PS console I've seen and thought "I need this game." Whereas I can think of many times for a game on PC and a handful for Switch.

It's all about the games, and literally everything that's out there just does not interest me enough to justify dropping over 500 bucks for a console, to say nothing of the economic pressures.

Lol, Rockstar proper is fucking dead, and GTA6 will be ESG-earning, design-by-committee bullshit designed around muh online. Sony won't have to censor anything, and all Soyny niggercattle will sign up for whatever extra accounts they have to in order to rob banks with their boys.

Look into your heart. You know it to be true.

So glad that I realized all the way back in 2010 that PC gaming is superior to this console horseshit. If console generations are going to continue to be as blurred as they have been for the past decade, why not just play games on a platform where you don't have to worry about backwards compatibility?

I bought a PS5 solely for Demon's Souls Remake. It is incredible. I otherwise largely regret the purchase.

Aside from Returnal (which is also on PC,) every other "PS5" game I own is also on PS4, and would've been essentially the same game on the PS4 Pro I needlessly replaced. I hope this thing doesn't sell for shit.
I bought a PS5 because I skipped the PS4, and backwards compatibility meant I basically got two new consoles. But if not for Demon's Souls, I would sell the thing and get a PS4 - the PS5 is simply ugly as sin. If the Pro doesn't look terrible I might consider upgrading for that reason alone, but otherwise Demon's Souls might move up my backlog so I can get it done and just drop the PS5.

I get that the PC can do pretty much any game these days, but I have a soft spot for consoles. Even so, I'm an adult and my home theater needs to look... decent, and that will never be the case as long as I have a PS5 shitting up the room. When it's not in use it goes in the closet, and that's more effort than the damn thing is worth.

Solution: get a PC and stream your gaming from it to your TV. The process has gotten a lot easier with Steam Big Picture mode and the Steam Link app.

And if you still want the plug- and-play console experience, roll your own with a Raspberry Pi and a custom 3D printed case. It can look as nice as you want it to.

Can you jailbreak that shit and get all the PS4 games for free?
You have to be on version 9.03 or lower to jailbreak it. (Version 9.04 released on 19 Feb, 2022, so you won't see any vulnerable machines in the wild easily). And due to the always-online nature of the PS4 you can't play pirated copies of games released after version 9.00. But you're able to play games released before 2021, which is most of the good stuff. If you can find an old, abandoned PS4 for cheap, I recommend you go for it.

I just bought a secondhand PS4 Pro with two pads for 150 bucks. Almost makes the PS5 seem useless, let alone the PS5 pro.
The funny part is that the PS5's sheer utter failure has made the PS4 one of the best consoles in Sony's history. I really seldomly used my PS3. It wasn't great. But I played the shit out of my PS4. I bought a PS4 very close to the end of its life cycle, only a month or two before the PS5's reveal. I remember being very annoyed and disappointed that the support for the PS4 would dry up after I just got one, but made due. Never would I imagine that 5-6 years later, I'd still be getting new games on the damn thing. What a complete and utter disaster for Sony.

As far as my purchase goes, getting a PS4 was the best decision I ever made.

There has been some recent developments and you can jailbreak consoles up to firmware 11.00 now.
