Thanks for the detailed information obtained by The Verge, today we confirm previously leaked details as Sony gears up to unveil the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro, codenamed "Trinity." According to insider reports, Sony is urging developers to optimize their games for the PS5 Pro, with a primary focus on enhancing ray tracing capabilities. The console is expected to feature an RDNA 3 GPU with 30 WGP running BVH8, capable of 33.5 TeraFLOPS of FP32 single-precision computing power, and a slightly quicker CPU running at 3.85 GHz, enabling it to render games with ray tracing enabled or achieve higher resolutions and frame rates in select titles. Sony anticipates GPU rendering on the PS5 Pro to be approximately 45 percent faster than the standard PlayStation 5. The PS5 Pro GPU will be larger and utilize faster system memory to bolster ray tracing performance, boasting up to three times the speed of the regular PS5.

Additionally, the console will employ a more powerful ray tracing architecture, backed by PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), allowing developers to leverage graphics features like ray tracing more extensively. To support this endeavor, Sony is providing developers with test kits, and all games submitted for certification from August onward must be compatible with the PS5 Pro. Insider Gaming, the first to report the full PS5 Pro specs, suggests a potential release during the 2024 holiday period. The PS5 Pro will also feature modifications for developers regarding system memory, with Sony increasing the memory bandwidth from 448 GB/s to 576 GB/s, enhancing efficiency for an even more immersive gaming experience. To do AI processing, there is an custom AI accelerator capable of 300 8-bit INT8 TOPS and 67 16-bit FP16 TeraFLOPS, in addition to ACV audio codec running up to 35% faster.

Not a significant improvement and is kind of pointless when your system has NO GAMES.

But really, how the fuck does Sony expect to sell this shit when there's almost nothing worth playing on it that can't be played on PS4 or PC? Not that I dislike getting "timed exclusives" like Nioh 2 to slurp up on Steam sales but what in the absolute fuck is their marketing strategy? Just look at this shit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_5_games, what the fuck on this list is supposed to compel anyone to purchase even a base PS5? Surely the goycattle covid funbux have dried up by now, expendable income is low, you're gonna need more than the status symbol bullshit that drove the initial sales to sell a Pro edition.
Here's a list of the PS5's best sellers. Notice how despite the system selling 50 million units, there's no game which reaches anywhere near those numbers? People are using the PS5 as a home theatre system and nothing else.

And the best part is, in order:
  1. Leaked PC port available
  2. PC port available
  3. PC port available
  4. PC port available
  5. Remake of a fucking PS3 game (that can be emulated)
  6. PC port available, Xbox port available, also a PS4 and Switch game
Normally you'd think this list would be the "AND NOW YOU CAN PLAY IN 4K/60FPS" list, but you can already fucking do that because they're all on PC except one.

Incremental console upgrades is going to kill the console market. You may as well having a gaming PC if your stock console will be obsolete soon.
This is why I have irrational hatred for retards pining for a ‘Switch Pro’. Nintendo already tried it with the New 3DS, and it didn’t do anything. It makes some games work a little bit better in 3D mode, and maybe there were a couple exclusives, but overall it was just a rerelease for the 3DS. People cared more about the nubby c-stick than the extra processing power. I think the 2DS ended up being more successful because it was cheap cheap cheap. Making a pro version of a console puts your developers in awkward situation: they have to design for two consoles, and if a developer is smart she’ll optimize for the worse of the two. Okay, so maybe the better version can bump you from 30 Hz to 60 Hz, or maybe it can bump you from 1440p to 4K, but for a lot of games it probably won’t do shit, and you’ll be left feeling like you got fleeced. So what do people do? The next generation they ‘hold out’ for the pro version, and by the time the pro version comes out (if it comes out at all) the console has failed and all its titles are available on other platforms, so they don’t even bother to get the pro version.

for the price of a PS5 and a PS5 Pro (less the $50 GameStop trade-in value of the former) you could build your own gaming PC that will last twice as long, has a library of more games than you could possibly play in your lifetime, and will pay itself off in the long run with things like Steam sales and Humble Choice. oh, and you can install your own fuckin software without Sony's permission. console cucks stay losing
That's a tired statement but consoles don't target you, they target people who don't want to be bothered.

I was going to make the point that with the way the PC handheld market has taken off you don't even need to go to the trouble of building a gaming PC either. Consoles don't even have the can't-be-bothered target market cornered anymore.

Not touching Sony shit ever again after the Helldivers 2 debacle. They could have contained their autism to their own hardware but they started infecting the PC games market, too. Unless I find a ps5 used cheap in several years and you can pirate it's entire library by then, the last system of theirs I own will have been the ps4, and even getting a ps5 by then will seemingly be pointless if everything will end up ported.

Yeah.. no. I’m happy with my gaming laptop (Intel Core i7-12700H, NVIDIA RTX 4070 8GB GDDR6 GPU, and 32 GBs of RAM) and I’ll more than likely use my birthday as an excuse to build a proper gaming desktop computer with better specs.

Hell, the only consoles I still play right now are my Switch and my PS3.
I just got a ps5 for Christmas ugh.....this is frustrating
I got one back in 2021 and I really only played it for a few months. SIE seems to hate making games for people that like their older IPs like Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter.

The rumor is Sony wants the ps5 pro to be the premiere place to play grand theft auto 6.
Chances are it’ll be on console exclusive for a year. So if you want to play gta 6 at the best possible resolutions you need a ps5 pro.

This take might be spicy to some but after the fucking trashfire that was 5 I don't care. GTA died with 4. Rockstar can suck my nuts.
Might work on your typical console consoomer though, assuming they have the money to buy it, and I think that's a bigger assumption than most are expecting.

I've basically resigned to the idea that if stream gaming becomes the console mainstay, I'll quit at that point. However, the game library for the PS5 has been so pathetic there's no real point in looking at the PS6.

This is likely a response to the supply chain issues that hit the XBXSX/PS5 at launch that put it in a hardcore death spiral. Less units available means less developers who want to make games for it. Which leads to less people who want to buy it, which leads to less developers who want to make games .... and so on.

Square Enix basically said "FFXVI sold pretty poorly because not many people have PS5s so we're going to really evaluate the other consoles" and then put FFXIV on the XBOX inside of a year. I'm sure Sony is paying a gigantic pile of cash for FF7-Rebirth and Part 3 exclusivity, but if they lose the install base even more devs are going to jump ship. Microsoft and Sony are running out of studios to buy.

They're hoping that by selling more PS5s - it'll attract more devs and then more games and so on. This whole gambit really hinges on how much they're going to ask for it - if they phase out/price drop "standard" PS5s and come with the pro at $450-500 then they have a decent chance. If they want to shoot themselves in the foot they're going to come out asking big dollars after the PS5 really failed to launch.

The industry is completely on board with upscaling, mostly because of Nvidia's success with it. It's here to stay. FSR 4 will probably use an AI-based method unless AMD is stupid or slow.
It's because of this and TAA being shit that I can't even play modern indie games anymore because they are all unreal slop which has forced TAA and in UE5 has forced upscaling. I can disable all that stuff with config editing but then the game looks like hot shit because nobody knows how to develop a game to look proper without any upscaling or TAA anymore because unreal just blurs it up and covers all their lack of care. The industry has gone to shit, and indies are going the same way with how every one of them is just a copy of something else that was successful. It's all so tiresome.

Rant over.

Remake of a fucking PS3 game (that can be emulated)
I bought a PS5 solely for Demon's Souls Remake. It is incredible. I otherwise largely regret the purchase.

Aside from Returnal (which is also on PC,) every other "PS5" game I own is also on PS4, and would've been essentially the same game on the PS4 Pro I needlessly replaced. I hope this thing doesn't sell for shit.
