Knowing Nick's interest in jewish teachings/practices, this makes a sad kind of sense. Nick is likely drawing some inspiration from the jews of the day who were there for that Passover.

Many jews were expecting a king according to prophesies focusing on a Davidic messiah that would lead them in victory over the world. Earthly ruler and earthly kingdom. It is noteworthy that there were many messiahs in the Old Testament, but Jesus has the distinction of fulfilling the offices of prophet, priest, and king. Moving on.

This is why the same jews who excitedly laid down palm branches as Jesus entered Jerusalem in fulfillment of a messianic prophecy (some shouting "Hosanna to the son of David!") scattered so quickly when Jesus was arrested by the Romans and sentenced to death. Their Davidic king was not supposed to die (and Nick would agree). He was supposed to rule because, well, they wanted to rule as God's chosen people over the other peoples.

Of course many of the jews of the day misunderstood the totality of what God had in mind and what He was trying to accomplish by sending His Son. More could be said on how this was made plain even contextually through the timing of the Jesus entering the city and His death (Passover) and the resurrection (Feast of Firstfruits) and such things that seem to be lost on Nick in affirming who the Messiah is and what He came to do, but I digress.

As myself and many other atheists will tell you, we all came from ridiculous Christian and catholic households and had to read the Bible and get the gospel teachings constantly. So most atheists know the Bible better than believers.
I’ve even gone a step further and look at other religions and even the gnostic texts. So I mean it when I say that literally none of Nick’s beliefs align with any denomination of Christianity that I’m aware of. He’s straight up clown world.
The most liberal understanding is, according to early Gnosticism, repenting and sacrificing was not something god wants, you’re supposed to know the teachings and in knowing the teachings you can get to heaven. But that’s leaving out everything else it says about living your life righteously, so even then it doesn’t fit that already antiquated world view.
I’ve also noticed that he frequently misunderstands the few Bible stories he has spoken about. I remember like a year or two ago he talked about Job and how it just means “shit happens and you deal with it.” Which is a shockingly cynical way to miss the point that would even make the South Park version blush.

My honest feeling is that Nick is an atheist in denial. The most common Christian attack towards atheists is that we are all degenerates because nothing holds us accountable. That’s how Nick lives his life
