Honestly, the MatPat farewell video makes it look like it was almost clickbait. It’ll be interesting to see how well he will translate his GameTheory persona to outside of his YT circles and to now his personal life.

Though, one must be prepared for the amount of GameTheory clones to churn out more clickbait titles with video game characters that look A.I. generated in the thumbnails.

You're thinking about his first video on the game where he theorized it was based on a real life Chuckie Cheese shooting, Man, nine years ago, time flies. Anyway I don't hate this, its an attempt to engage with the game on a non-literal level which he used to do a lot more often. Scott did say it was bunk, but he wasn't mean about it, just that the game wasn't based on any real-life events. You might be confusing this for his Petscop video where he, or more realistically someone on his team, compared the game to the real-life tragedy of Candance Newmaker. The creator went off on him on Twitter and was angry and horrified that Matpat was comparing the game to anything irl.

Honestly the whole Petscop Candace Newmaker thing always annoyed me.

See, one thing I picked up on early is that Matpat is sometimes using "theories" as an excuse to hedge a discussion about something else entirely. He explicitly said this about "Sans is Ness"--that he just wanted an excuse to talk about Earthbound in a format that basically did not allow him to.

With the Newmaker thing, that video always read to me like he was trying to inform people about the shit that adopted kids can be put through and how adopters can act more like "consumers" than like parents... and of course autists on the internet missed that.

When I checked the comments on that video, I noticed two divisions: normal sane people were like "the woman who killed Candace Newmaker shoould be murdered horribly and we ought to make sure stuff like this stops happening." Real autists, however, would get hung up on "durrr it isn't canon to my fucking creepypasta!"

I think this kind of thing also explains the videos that came out where Matpat seems a little snippy at his critics, like the one where he says most people tend to reduce his theories down to a single meme image. Which, call it egotistical if you want, but... nothing Matpat said in that video was wrong.

As for his recent announcement.... yeah I share what others have said that this probably means the various Theory channels are gonna not last. Like it or not, Mat did have a sort of charisma that kept things going.... and long-term fans of anything tend to not adapt well to change.

It'll be like Jeopardy without Alex Trebek, to use a reference Matpat himself would appreciate.

more that they'll rush in to 'fill the void' left by him, i'd think.

Don't expect the show will last long without matpat, I think the only guy who both really had lasting power in matpat's crew and was fairly charismatic was the The SCIENCE! guy, Austin.

This comparison might be a bit too generous. Jeopardy is still going reasonably well even without Alex as the core quiz show easily endures without the iconic host, but Game Theory was made by Mat and built around him such that you can't really replace him with some new host like it's a news program. I didn't like what Mat did with GT as the years went by, but it was still his channel, and you can't just change ownership and act like nothing had changed.

Part of me loves the fact that the minute Hello Neighbor tried to weaponize theory-baiting and constantly begging Matpat to look at it, it just became a thing Matpat would take digs at.

I really expected FNAF to be MatPat's final theory. It was a nice video, and when you really think about it, whether you like or hate current FNAF, it's hard to think of an indie series that's had as much of an impact.

He decided to a theory on Fnaf based on a poll , it would of been a different video game landscape if Fnaf lost that poll
 
As much as I grew up to resent MatPat for oversaturating my Youtube feed with bullshit theories, it's almost melancholic to see him go. I just hope he has a bright future ahead of him for his family.

He annonunced ALL of the theory hosts since the start of this whole thing.
This guy at game theory, tom at film theory, santi at food theory, and amy at style theory.
he is just trying to put him into more conent before the actual retireing happens, he is in fact been doing that since the start of february.

It'll probably be the same for the first month or so with the typical comments of "this host is actually very good", but then it's going to decline because MatPat, as much as he is annoying, is Game Theory. Same with all the other channels.

Tl;dr, a bit of history on "Game Theory" the actual economic theory, how one "plays" on youtube as a creator, some BTS people that work on the show, final thank you, etc. etc.

But my god, no wonder I stopped watching this fag years ago. Unnecessary filler and unfunny quips, a grating scenekid personality and voice to boot, editting that gets under my skin. Again I have to ask, who genuinely watches Game Theory in [current year]?
