I fucking don't. "God's plan for your life might be for you to be miserable, until you die" is terrible advice, true as it may be.
Instead of hand-waving bullshit about God and his unknowable "plans", how about if someone would've sat him down and said, "Russell, you're not miserable because you don't have a wife, you're miserable because nobody wants to be with you, and nobody wants to be with you because you act like an entitled piece of shit."

I'm sure he was told, going on mission will boost your rep in the community. An objective true statement for his Mormon church. Maybe a more educated person can chime in if with his medical issues could have been given a pass?
Either way Russ takes things how he wants to hear them. I can see him being the kind of guy who wants to murder a reporter who says chance of rain and he wanted a sunny day so they LIED!!

Yeah, being told by a person I trusted for my spiritual guidance that I may never have a wife or family in this earthly life would probably fuck me up a little, especially after the circumstances of my birth and adoption.
Then I find myself having pity for him and have to slam my head into the wall a few times until that feeling goes away.
