She's nearly 40 and is only now realising that her kids are going to grow up and then they'll eventually move out. Though they wont amount to much given that Melinda has been teaching them instead of a proper school and they probably don't get a lot of social interactions outside of the family so getting work will be difficult. That is if they work and don't leech off the government like their mother.
