New Details Released After Person Pointing Gun Struck By Police SUV In North Bellmore​

A person who police thought was a woman and was knocked down by a police vehicle on Long Island for allegedly pointing a loaded gun at traffic has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Nassau County Police charged a Brooklyn man for the incident which occurred on Tuesday, August 15, at 2:20 p.m. in North Bellmore.

According to detectives, 911 received multiple calls for a woman firing a black handgun into the air in the vicinity of Jerusalem Avenue and Bellmore Avenue.

Upon police arrival, officers found the person pointing a black and silver handgun at passing motorists and police. An officer struck the subject with the front passenger side of a patrol vehicle, causing the person to fall to the ground with the weapon, police said.

Kiber Calderon, age 31, a.k.a. Hanna Carillo, age 33, was placed into custody and a loaded firearm was recovered.


Carillo suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The officer was transported to an area hospital and is being treated for trauma.

The investigation is ongoing.

Calderon was charged with:

• Three counts of menacing
• Reckless Endangerment
• Two counts of menacing a police officer
• Criminal contempt of court,
• Two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance
• Two counts of criminal possession of a weapon
• Criminal possession of a firearm
• Criminal possession of a weapon/second degree

Calderon will be arraigned when medically practical.

He was previously arrested in New York City on Thursday, June 8, for burglary, and on Friday, June 9, for burglary and trespassing.

A police officer knocked down a woman with his patrol SUV on purpose as she pointed a gun at people sitting in cars at a busy Long Island intersection and allegedly fired it once.

The incident took place in North Bellmore at the intersection of Jerusalem and Bellmore avenues at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said the 33-year-old woman had a loaded semi-automatic pistol and was pointing it at children and families in cars.

She fired it at least once and pointed it at her head as she crossed the roadway, he said at a press conference.

That's when the officer made the decision to clip her with his vehicle, reported Channel 4 NBC New York.

Ryder said the officer did an outstanding job making a split-second decision to use the vehicle.

"I never am going to Monday morning quarterback my cops," Ryder said. "They did an outstanding job."

The unidentified woman received minor injuries, Ryder said.

After being knocked down, the woman was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The officer who struck the woman was taken to another hospital to be treated for trauma.

Ryder called the unidentified officer a hero.
