To be fair to Dawkins, there are good reasons to support and even demand Begum returning to the UK. For one, making someone stateless is against international law. Even if you think international law is bullshit, there are practical reasons why having stateless people is bad. Various UK governments have argued that she (and others guilty of terrorism) has dual citizenship and therefore would not be made stateless, but the fact is she does not have another passport and Bangladesh would not take here.

Banishment just doesn't make sense in the 21st century. Or the 20th, for that matter. You kick someone out of their country, but what if no one else will take them? There a million ways this doesn't work out.
