Alan Roberts may not be everybody's cup of tea, but today he had a livestream in which he discussed a video by a 400 lb, 40-year-old woman calling herself Fat Girl on a Diet, who has decided to get her shit together and lose weight.
She grew up fat because her family ate trash, got into an early version of HAES and body positivity when she was 20, and it's wrecked her life and her health (she had cervical cancer—a cancer linked to obesity—and a full hysterectomy at 33). She rattled off a long list of health conditions, admitted she can't wipe her own ass without an assistive device, and leaks urine in large part because of her fatness. So she's made a very candid and self-aware video talking about all of these issues, as a cautionary tale to younger women who might be attracted to the idea they can be both fat and healthy.
Seeing Corissa—who isn't even as old as Fat Girl on a Diet is, and hasn't spent her entire life obese—going in for a probable EKG, really drives the point home. She's had her gallbladder out, has IBS severe enough to make her worry about shitting herself in public, wears period pants because she leaks piss, requires a bidet to manage basic hygiene, has a hard time showering due to her size, has PCOS, is type 2 diabetic, has skin that reflects just how much chronic, systemic inflammation she lives with, can't garden without sitting or lounging on the ground, can't re-hang her own cabinet doors, has sleep apnea (iirc), and admits she suffers from depression—I mean, god damn, that is some powerful denial for her to think she's in any way healthy, and not falling the fuck apart because of her obesity. You cannot tell me she's not in chronic pain, or at least discomfort, every minute of the day, and it's entirely because she's fat.
Corissa, for all her influencer good-life posing and pretending to be honest about herself, is exactly what Fat Girl on a Diet describes when she warns young, obese women about how fatties fall apart in their 30s, and that HAES is a lie. Corissa's not even 40, and thinks she's in a position to talk about aging—well, she is, because she's physiologically 25-30 years older than her chronological age, and it's entirely because she's obese.
That Corissa lives with all of these consequences, and still makes her living selling the idea that letting yourself be obese is actually the key to personal freedom and happiness, even as she herself is falling apart, and her partner, who has only just turned 30, is even more debilitated by her own obesity—that shit's just evil.

Eh, they're kind of relaxing. Keeps you eyes and hands busy and you can work out stuff that's been bothering you in your head at the same time. That said, I've never come across one I wanted to hang on a wall.

Cervical cancer is linked to obesity?! That's surprising. I thought it was mostly due to HPV infection. I know obesity is linked to breast cancer, colon cancer and probably others I'm forgetting.

I honestly think that Deathfat people all have borderline intellectual functioning. All of the women who get really into the HAES shit just come across as very unintelligent. I don't know if they get involved because they're stupid or if if it's the way they live affecting their cognitive function.

I agree! The ones that try to sound smart like Ragen, Virgie and that girl who was all wrong about that prison starvation experiment comes across as incredibly disingenuous, logically fallacious AND unintelligent. I know inflammation can affect one's mental functioning and cause brain fog. Obesity is a known cause of systemic inflammation, especially if it's around the viscera. It must be like waking up groggy all the time, all day and it never goes away.
