President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Speaking of which, this is the colonel, commander of the 20th motorized division, born in Volgograd, Russia (but has Ukrainian surname - "sparrow")

According to RF, colonel was identified by DNA remains after HIMARS strike on his command post, on July 11th.
That's a bird colonel's house? God damn E-3s with used up stripper wives get better accommodations on typical base housing. He must have been one of the "good ones" that didn't sell equipment as a side gig if that's his personal home.

I'm sure the Russians can make rifled barrels, it's not too technically difficult and the tooling is in house. The issue is if they are willing to take guns offline for depot level maintenance.
The question is whether their drunken conscripts even know this needs to be done?

Gay marriage is illegal in in Ukraine if you look at the poles the vast majority of ukrainians oppose homosexuality they forgot to show the part where most of those people get their face caved in by the Ukrainian ultra-nationalist and the police look the other way

I wrote 'I think.' So the fuck what if I got the name wrong. It's more a rip off of US F-35 design work via Chinese spies. That the Chicoms rip off Russian and American stuff is a matter of record. SU-27 Flanker becoming the Shenyang J-11 is an obvious one. and Russia cannot do much about it if they want a market and supplier. +1000 social credits my man for your Chi-simping.

Chicom rip off of RF and US combat aircraft

it's a big steel tube, made to more or less tight specifications, with added rifling on the inside. it's as simple and basic as military hardware gets.
sure if you want to make state of the art high tech artillery systems like german panzerhaubitzen you'll need a fuckton of auxiliary systems to go along with the gun itself, but if you're just making plain old field guns you really just need basic heavy industry capable of working with steel, no fancy foreign tech needed.
Even the most basic piece of field artillery, say a Msta-B, altho surely RF has better than the museum stuff their Ukrainian cannon fodder in the Donbas use, has aiming equipment, high tolerance componentry and hydraulics that Russia cannot make itself and can at best cannibalize from worn out stock. It's not just gunsmithing. There's more than a rifled tube. It better hope that PRC ripped off the field artillery they use most. It was the sort of stuff the Soviet Union could do in its sleep, but Putin's Russia cannot. Anyhow, those all need shells and the M142 HIMAR messing up 14 plus logistics centers might make that difficult.

❌ Ukraine is breaking off diplomatic relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in connection with its recognition of the independence of the so-called "L/DPR", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

They probably shouldn't have bothered. One meme state recognises another even memier thing, some joke run by the FSB with a crew of desperate traitors.

📣 Lukashenko said that the West plans to attack Russia. The Belarusian dictator said that he had discussed "directions of the strike” with Putin
ditto
Surely he can ask Putin to provide him with better hair treatment than a combover.

Utterly useless at anything that isn't wrecking apartment blocks. Don't have the firepower to stand in the line of battle with tanks and they're too slow for recon duties. There's a reason the USA never built something like that despite the mess of urban combat we found ourselves in overseas.

Yeah, fixing worn out artillery barrels is relatively straightforward. You remove the barrel from the breech assembly and fit a new one on. It isn't complicated nor something that needs a full depot overhaul... but you do have to send the barrel back to the factory to have a new liner fitted for it. The USA was having major issues in Italy during WW2 with all of our 155mm gun barrels getting worn from use... and those had a lifespan of 1,500 rounds. I can't imagine things are any better on the Russian side, plus there are the other more delicate components they likely can't replace people have brought up.
there is a whole series of these, someone's hobby I guess (and a few telegarm channels) to paste dead RFs social media ironic posts. It does reflect general mindset of these idiots who bought the propaganda about them being the toughest 2nd army in the world.

It's also comical to see mongoloids pretending to be slavs, boy-officers talking tough and spergs about occupation of Europe and kicking American ass.

Take with grains of salt, but lmao sure Russia...
All PRC military aircraft are bad rip offs of Russian and American equipment. The J-15, a copy of the SU-33 kept going on fire. They might make SU-57 copies (Chengdu J-20 I think) with decent copies of the Western origin avionics and the flight characteristics might be fine, but the engines are a joke. China and Russia are school yard bullies not great or even medium scale powers, just local bullies and international bribers.
Chengdu J-20 is, to the Chicom credit, a fairly unique design for a stealth fighter. It's closest to the defunct and never-adopted MiG-1.44 concept, but even then little beyond "delta canard stealth fighter".
Shenyang J-31/FC-31 is basically a shameless F-35 rip-off, but with two engines and different wing dimensions. From the frontal angle the two planes look damn near twins if you can't see the engines.

You aren't wrong about the engines and hydraulics, though.

The Terminator always seemed like a problem looking for a solution. Like Russia, in looking for a solution to losing tons of AFVs in urban warfare skipped right over the obvious answer of 'properly support our thunder runs with infantry' and went for 'funnel money into Uralvagonzavod to create yet more Russiaboo fap fuel that they'll only ever make more than a few dozen of at most'.

Russia: "There will be severe response/nukes will fly if
  • Finland and Sweden join NATO
  • Lithuania doesn't drop the rail blockade
  • Polish government doesn't condemn attacking the russian ambassador
  • Ukraine keeps getting armed
  • Sanctions aren't dropped wholesale NAOW!!
  • Fucking whatever."
NATO extension is pretty much a done, sanctions and blockade of Kaliningrad instead of being nulled got extended and Polish gov told russia to go fuck itself and fuck all happened.

If I were them I'd shut the fuck up and muzzle the drunken bobble heads because unless you follow up on your totally legit threats you just embarrass yourself further, let western journoshits come up with narratives about what russia might do in response themselves, some outlets love doing that.

I'm also still waiting for the Polish invasion and annexation of western Ukraine that was supposed to happen a month ago or so according to Lukashenko and russian TV drunkards.

"I haven't even started for real" - Putin when asked "Are you in yet?" 4 months into what he considers to be foreplay.

Russians have fuck all for leverage but gas that which if they cut they'll lose as leverage forever, it'll hurt, hard, but euros will find alternatives and nukes which if they use nothing will matter anymore.
