Being below 40 million for his first true state of the union address is pretty pathetic. The first phony one for Joe Biden didn't even do 35 million and this did about 38 million. Donald Trump's first one did over 45 million and Barack Obama's first one did nearly 50 million. Barack Obama and Donald Trump didn't do numbers this poor until their last state of the union addresses. Even before going for the polling to polish this turd, it is damning to do below 40 million with Russia waging some form of invasive ground war against the Ukraine.
I'm also going to add that there is zero chance the online engagement for this state of the union address was anywhere near the amount of engagement for the first two Donald Trump addresses. The internet viewership for this must have been in the toilet compared to those.

SOTU speeches are major events to galvanize support and rally your party.
Biden's speech seemed to avoid directly addressing the current problems many Americans are facing today (inflation, economy, gas prices, etc.) for the most part. The ongoing Ukrainian invasion was barely given three paragraphs.
That being said, the usual pandering the SOTU speeches do was turned up quite a few notches last night. People who overwhelmingly support Biden didn't have their favorable opinions changed, whereas people who either didn't like or were indifferent to Biden weren't convinced to lend him their support. His plans for the future seem limp-wristed.
