I've taken a fair number of L's in my life, some could be considered pretty bad, getting jumped by multiple people and repeatedly kicked in the face, beaten with a large tree branch, one time I was mugged and got wailed on until I stopped trying to get up. I never had anything worse than a fractured wrist. Part of it is knowing how to deal with violence. I'm a terrible fighter, but there's definitely a method to surviving a beating, it's hard to explain. Ralph must have just completely frozen and let someone utterly trounce him.

Most importantly, this is not the sort of beating a mugger gives to someone, even if they were "chased down", they just want to subdue the person and gtfo. This was definitely protracted and motivated by an extreme emotional response.

How's healthcare work in Portugal money wise? I'm sure it's a socialized system but usually those aren't gonna fully cover tourists for stuff like this. Regardless Ralph's probably gonna get fucked with medical bills when he gets home and his bottom tier insurance won't pay out.

Portugal has public healthcare but, like many countries with that, do not cover foreigners. Ideally you are supposed to have traveler's insurance when you go abroad, but we don't know if the gunt has that.

When I got mugged I had a bloody nose and a shiner. Getting hit a couple times by some nogs was enough for me to give them my money and watch.
