My headcanon is that a therapist tried to suggest Dave had narcissist personality disorder so Dave looked it up and went "aha! Dr. Joe Muscato exactly!" And he keeps reading about it but never makes the connection about his own behavior.

Walmart is well known for using surveillance footage captured over a longer period of time and compiling it until a single individual can be charged with a felony rather than a misdemeanor. This is especially true now that in the 2020s, a lot of local police departments have gone full "catch and release" about misdemeanor suspects, so you have to get them on a felony for anything to actually happen.
It's very possible that Dave is being smug about stealing steaks while a loss prevention officer is quietly opening a file and noting the value of each theft until it hits the required amount. In Missouri, that's $750.
The Dave-as-felon arc would be beautiful, him portraying himself as a dainty feminine Jean Valjean imprisoned with brutes for stealing a loaf of bread.

To be sure, this would be a Dave-as-felon-again arc. He's still facing felony charges for stealing food using his father's country club account. And harassment charges. Jail time is a real possibility, possibly prison if he messes up badly enough.
It would be hilarious if prosecutors are watching his socials and bring up his retail thefts to the court as evidence of a pattern. Unfortunately, I doubt they're putting those kind of resources into this case.
