Purge all drivers with sudo apt purge nvidia* Reboot and then autoinstall the proprietary nvidia drivers with sudo ubuntu-drivers install

I ran into a similar problem with the 460 driver and I'm pretty sure that using a 4.x kernel instead of the mint default 5.x one fixed it.
