Last I heard, they set him free under a new alias after a stay in the looney bin. Even the public thought that this was stupid.

He's out and about. There was a bit of a controversy when they announced that they were releasing him a few years ago but it looks like he hasn't...

He was cured! They gave him a name change and released him into the wild.
