If by "subverted" you mean "appointed by Bush Jr so probably a neocon," yes. Bush Jr also gave us Alito, though, so it wasn't all bad.

Roberts is a literal coin flip. Not really the type of person you want to ride on when it comes to SCOTUS rulings. He's gonna need to win a lot.
