Yeah. The symbiote made him more aggressive and less self conscious. It did not make him any less of a nerd.

I honestly am surprised people who frequent this site, of all places, can't find a socially maladjusted nerd failing hardcore at trying to be cool...

Even if the movie's intent was to show "LOL look at this dweeb" it was still too cringe to derive any humor from it.
