One of the first online interactions I ever had was a guy calling me a slur out of the blue, and I laughed my ass off. Now it's everywhere, all the time, in your pocket. And people are subconsciously unable to separate real life from social media as a result and so the insults feel more personal.

Now most people these days, even people our age who should know better, have their online and real lives intrinsically linked, and see stupid Internet slapfights as actual battles for their honor.
