I read it as "you didn't fail society and the system, society and the system failed you." So doing what you have to survive, stealing robbing...

Probably late but if you have to commit a crime (rob, deal drugs. Prostitution, etc) to survive, blah blah blah.

If your survival has no moral character then neither does your death.
