Not in the batter, but you do "marinade" chicken in buttermilk and spices for buttermilk chicken. The batter comes right before frying it, though.

Yoghurt's actually a pretty decent marinade that you can use for a lot of meats just fine. Honestly his fried chicken isn't too egregious outside...
