I think the sheriff was pretty obviously a villain, and his psycho deputy a completely unambiguous monster, while Rambo was a deeply troubled man...

It's the only good one in the series. The others all suck but First Blood was great.

First Blood was a real movie. The other Rambo movies were (mostly) entertaining but he was a cartoon character by then, not a person.
