Shangrila Frontier is great but it's not purely mecha. Season 2 has more mecha elements and it's still as great as S1.

The issue with new mecha is that the stories are never good, not the CGI. I actually like CGI mecha because I have a much easier time imagining...

It's not just you. Directors still flub this a lot, similar to how they can never get live-action and 2d to look seamless. I find it's at its best...
