I had one, not that great. Pierced primers, shit gas system, really ammo sensitive. Just get an M1.

Using a SVT for hunting is lunacy. It wasn't a particularly reliable gun when it was new, and 80+ years haven't improved its performance one bit...

The SVT40 is a fun rifle to shoot, and it certainly turns heads at the range, but I would not recommend it for hunting. It's nearly 50 inches...
