It's okay to not like something. Don't force yourself. And BG1/2 won't help much since they use a different ruleset.

play something easier like star wars KOTOR or dragon age origin.

You might prefer Larian's prior game, actually, Divinity: Original Sin 2. Writing wise, it's Larian, so you're getting almost the same thing...

Just play on Story mode. The combat system is pretty much the most unbearable aspect of it all.

There are mods for that.
