How old are Alex's parents? Alex herself is 29-30 so they'd be bear minimum in their 50s? 60s? Would they even be healthy and capable themselves...

Is the dad a baby boomer? Because boomers have a very specific mentality compared to other generations, I’m not surprised at the attitude.
