"They want you to have a girlfriend" - The "they" are the people that feed his delusions/ego on his social media . Look at his FB and you'll see...

I thought maybe some therapists and social workers may have used a girlfriend as a carrot in the past, and he rolled that into his delusions...

Maybe he thinks that "people mock me for not having a girlfriend = people want me to have a girlfriend". Hard to really say what his logic is...
