She’s already prepping the world for her decision to give he dog away. My guess is she'll blame her PTSD or some other made up trauma as the reason she can’t successfully take care of a puppy. But it will really be that she is unwilling to do the moderate work required.

So at most he has to pay a few months rent until it renews. Or offer them a replacement roommate to take over for him. If they turn him down, they can't really complain that he didn't continue to pay for somewhere he didn't live, or at least, it makes it a real pain to argue about.
If I were Daniel, and leaving under these circumstances, I would just create the most gigantic mess imaginable and not care who ended up having to pay, even if it was me, so long as everyone was miserable.

Yeah, getting out of a lease is incredibly easy in a situation like this. He could sublet his share (and as @AnOminous says, if they fought a replacement, he could make things really difficult for them), hell, he could even break his part of the lease and pay the associated fines, which could cause them to have to move out too if they couldn’t come up with the income requirements or other provisions in their own lease agreements. If he wanted to leave, he could totally just fuck everyone while doing it.
But I don’t think he wants to leave. He and the other one choose to stay in this relationship with her, God only knows why, so let them all suffer together.

This is what I picked up on as well. Chances are he wasn't engaging in 'toxic positivity' (which can be a thing, but like all lefty complaints, gets over-applied until it loses all meaning). It's infinitely more likely that anything approaching a good mood or a positive mental attitude got him attacked by the black hole of misery that is Becky, and that's just how she referred to it if he ever tried to cheer her up or counter her catastrophising.

Honestly, seeing so many grown ass adult cows diagnosed with ADHD and then blaming this new diagnosis for all of their past terrible behavior will never not be funny. I would love all the normal people with ADHD diagnoses to step-up and say, “no, actually being ADHD doesn't make you a terrible person and people like you give a pretty common disorder a massive stigma,” but I know that won’t happen.
