There's a lot of sins one can point out in Chantal's degeneration saga, but the worst one has to be how she repeatedly fantasizes and plots aloud about leaving behind her cats. While she is not a good person and is not the best owner, her cats do appear genuinely attached to her regardless and display mild distress about her long absences. Cats are usually pretty easy pets, in terms of daily needs - you feed them, you clean their shit box, you provide a warm soft spot to sleep most of their hours away, and they are generally in good spirits. Indoor cats rarely need much medical care, even, as they aren't going to encounter much in the way of parasites or have territory fights, so they are usually pretty cheap to own and maintain.
Even that is too much to ask for Chantal now, they are just fluffy burdens on her way to some imaginary jet-setting beeze adventure. Sure, they're just animals, but they can't protect themselves from the fallout of her decisions and have no say in what happens to them. They are the only creatures in this saga I feel bad for, and the way she regurgitates Nader's "teasing" insults at them while airing her fantasies of dumping them on Peetz makes me Mad At The Internet.
