Chris was originally names Christopher, but when he was a kid he went to mall that had animatronic bear and guy who operated it misheard the name and thought its Christian. Chris then made parents to change his name and then went around saying how "God and the bear" gave him name Christian.

Personally, I think Christopher is a better name than Christian. I've known people with either name and the former generally seem to fare better than the latter.
