Chris Chan fucked up big time. I don't think Chris had the intention of hurting his mother or knowingly knew it was wrong even if you argue that he was aware of her dementia. The thing is, Chris is also a mentally ill person, he too has mental issues ( that is clear ) and in his mental disorder, hallucinogenic, delirious state, he truly and still believes he did nothing wrong and was actually doing a favor to his mother.
He won't be in jail for rape or abuse cause the state will, and in my opinion rightly so, label him mentally retarded. Chris Chan will be sent to a mental institution and he will remain there for a good amount of years and Barb will forever be locked in a senior house/hospital, away from Chris and live the years she has left, away from social interaction and freedom.

And part of his role play connects with his idea that he is doing something good, he wants us to believe, he is trying to convince us that he believes he is doing something good, so his actions are justifiable, in his mind.
