I caught some of his matches live and there was something really weird about them. In almost every case the other player acted like a bot. They would take a looong time to make any actions. I have never seen players wait so long between inputs. After losing to Phil a couple of times they became aggressive. After winning a few times they became stationary. Was he playing real players or was he playing training AI?

I am gonna be pedantic and correct one thing, but it's pretty much irrelevant to the overall point. During kyu ranks you get rank points and even rank up when losing, while with dan ranks you have to win to get rank up points and get promoted, but the amount of rank-up points you lose when losing in dan ranks is miniscule compared to how many you get by winning and you still can't be demoted at all, that's why he still sometimes encountered Derichs who spam 2-3 shitty strings at high dan levels. Otherwise you're completely correct, that's why I predicted that once he goes to named ranks he's gonna ragenot-having-funquit since at that point he'll play people who know how to do the "advanced" technique of launch punishing his -21 on block move. The Brad player from the stream before yesterday's was the canary in the coal mine since he recognized that he could just do a launcher (or a "mid-style floaty move" as the former pro fighting game player calls them) on Dave since he not only doesn't know how to step or punish them, he doesn't even block them because he keeps pushing buttons on wakeup and gets stuffed by it again and again. We've seen this play out multiple times on yesterday's stream.

Of course, Dave claimed that knowing how to sidestep and how to punish as well as how to do juggles is "abusive stuff" because he's a little bitch and a scrub who refuses to learn or adapt and hell, most of the times he doesn't even know what's happening on screen because he thinks something works the same way in VF as it does in another fighting game series when it doesn't. For example, he claimed that all of those moves are "safe counter hit launchers just like Tekken" but they're not. He got hit on counter hit because he's a mashing scrub but those moves that blew him up also launch on normal hit, plus as I said as a rule of thumb every mid launcher in VF is at least throw punishable and characters with a quick high launcher like Goh and Akira's 46P can even launch punish them. Good, safe counter hit launchers are actually really rare in VF and only a handful of characters have them. It's actually a really smart way of balancing the game because that way you don't have to learn each matchup in-depth, if you face a character for the first time and you block a launcher that successfully hit you earlier in the match, you know that you can at least attempt a throw punish. That's also why there's a few basic generic moves that every character has with the same properties across the board.

He just refuses to learn because he's regressed to the mental state of a toddler and you have to let him win or he starts crying. He's so fucking lazy that he can't look shit up on VFDC, a website where they have frame data and combo lists for each character and each launcher. They also have in-depth beginner's guides for all of the mechanics as well as quick beginner's guides for every character, they list out the best moves in a character's arsenal so you don't get immediately overwhelmed by their move lists wondering which moves are good in most situations and which are not. Instead, when he gets destroyed and doesn't know how to do even the most basic stuff in the game it's the fault of the game, it's the fault of the opponent, they made him lose, not his shitty gameplay.

Also, I saw that Pai player who I know is a streamsniper push Dave's shit in again yesterday. Big ups once again.

I think its because a lot of scrubs see fighting games as a dick measuring contest. Every time he gets beat he has to come up with the it's cold outside or you were looking at it from a funny angle excuse.

As a mid tier MK 11 player myself I never understood this mindset. I body some people I get bodied sometimes it's a close match but I always walk away happy just having fun.

Despite not having much to do with the FGC in years, he still takes pride in how much of an experienced pro player he once was, but can't resist putting people in their place because they're not an evo winner or didn't play the tough hardcore arcade fighters like back in his heyday that took real skill to play, not this modern day garbage like SFV as he likes to point the finger at.

It's just his usual excuses he pulls out of his cobweb brain that it's not his fault, and there can't possibly be many people better then him, narcissistic tendencies in full swing.

It's always funny to see him act like this, and it's a shame he's too much of a coward to pick up the new Guilty Gear, because then he's gonna end up getting bopped by even more new players, miles ahead of him.

It was really frustrating watching people get hit by that high-low string over and over in the previous stream, but I knew eventually he'd rank up and run into people that would actually start blocking (and even punishing) that shit. How satisfying

As many people have said, VF5 has exposed Phil as someone who refuses to adapt and learn modern mechanics for a 3D fighter that demands you use them. yeah, it’s just a maturity thing. I used to get mad everytime I lost, and one day I realized I was just doing my best and if I wasn’t willing to put in the time to get better at these games I shouldn’t get mad when I lose.

found myself having a lot more fun with fighters since I started thinking this way. I have fun when I win, and when I lose I just say “they got me, I tried my best” and move on. It’s really sad to see someone over 10 years my senior still act this immature over losing in a video game

Even if you did something like transport top players from back in the day to today they'd get creamed, like let's say you could teleport 2k4 Daigo to today, he'd get creamed by mid-high ranked players online easily. But that's the difference between Dave and players like Daigo who maintained their pro player status even today. The latter kept playing, kept training, kept improving, kept adapting, they know that you have to do that or be left in the dust. That determination and will to constantly improve themselves is why they're still the top dogs in fighting game tournaments while Dave contents himself with beating up on scrubs once a week on a shitty port of Super Turbo nobody plays. You could say the same thing about Dave's ahnline khantent creator career. People who used to be big and are still big managed to do so because they adapted to the changes in khantent creation, Dave still thinks that DAY 1 VIEWS GET THE MONEY is a viable strategy 13 fucking years later. To make a shitty analogy - everyone else is using tanks and machineguns while Dave wonders why his pike&shot strategy isn't working well anymore.

Maybe at the very start, but otherwise I think it is just the other side of bad/new players. Some mash buttons constantly because they don't know what they are doing, others freeze up even when they have the advantage because they don't know what to do.

Kinda felt the same way but have more respect for W. than Trump. I'm sure if you went over Donnie's speeches they would be equal if not worst and doing so in only one term. Can anyone familiar with VF explain what a 'floaty mid-style' move is (yes that is a direct quote)? Surely Dark wouldn't just spout complete nonsense to excuse his losses right?

It's a move used by any opponent that DSP is too shitty at the game to block, counter, or side step that connects that his ego must immediately cover his ass over. It means nothing outside of exactly that.

That stall at the end of the stream was great, we got a salty rant about how bad the game sucks and how this could be it for VF5. Turns off YouTube to talk about his schedule again but slides a beg right in the middle of it. Finished off by minutes of the Wheelchair art show. Tonight was some classic Phil. Reminded a bit of his SF4 days just with more upfront begging.

His autism inflicted mental routine glitched over the same rant topics three times sequentially one after the other desperate for some WWE Champions money to chase the next sweatymanjpg, it was art and the second most entertaining part of the stream after he was getting dominated matched up with players ranked in levels 21-24 or so.

I also liked that during that time, he repeatedly pointed out that tips were low and insinuated that meant a disinterest in Virtua Fighter...

He also complained that the game brought all the trolls out. This is pretty unfair. A more accurate assessment is that none of his mods could be bothered to show up tonight, so the trolls realized they could shitpost with impunity. But of course, the game takes the fall for that too.

KGokken was there. Chat didn't hand hold his counter flow charts for him is more like it which really salted the pork.

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but whenever Phil plays a fighting game I'm reminded of David Sirlin's book Playing to Win where he defines what a scrub is, and it's Phil. It's 100% Phil, and given that they were both in the Super Turbo scene at the same time and encountered each other in tournaments, it could very well be partially based on Phil.

That type of player has always struck me as autistic growing up witnessing their stupid mentalities and the fact Phil goes for it too just cements the fact he's either un-diagnosed on the spectrum or just isn't getting the care for his diagnosis he requires.

"Mom" is pretty consistent from what I see. PigPigGo includes partial matches, so if you just search mom it'll bring up results for words like moment. Ya have to put a space at the beginning and end if you want a specific word, so this graph is a search for " Mom "
