They gave the people who redesigned the flag in 2018 and now "credit" for their work. I like the idea that putting a new triangle on something is enough to earn you asspats for life. Also, now that this three hour old new flag is in the world, anyone who uses the old one literally wants to round up all the intersex people and put them in camps.

Intersex groups from around the world repeatedly call for the removal of sex category markers on birth certificates and identification documents for all citizens. I support this and believe that gender markers for equality purposes could be recorded elsewhere. Sex does not need to be a legal category. Intersex Human Rights Australia’s submission on birth certificate reform in Queensland calls for an end to legal classification by sex and gender.

So I thought Pink News had fallen for a troll op of some kind, but it turns out that actually some person is behind it, so I looked into it and now I have more questions than answers.

Here's the Pink News article (archive.md)
The Progress Pride flag has been redesigned by an intersex activist to include intersex people.

A yellow triangle with a purple circle in it has been added, to represent intersex people, community and rights.

The new Pride flag was designed by Valentino Vecchietti, of Intersex Equality Rights UK, who is an intersex activist and Diva Magazine columnist, continuing a tradition of Pride flags being updated and reimagined.

Intersex Equality Rights UK explained in the caption of an Instagram post sharing the new flag that the Progress Pride flag itself is a redesigned version of the classic rainbow Pride flag.

“In 2013 Morgan Carpenter and Tony Briffa of Intersex Human Rights Australia designed the intersex flag,” the group said.

“In 2017 under the leadership of American civil rights activist Amber Hikes, Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs developed the rainbow flag to incorporate black and brown stripes to include Black, brown, and people of colour. Building on that in 2018 Daniel Quasar redesigned the flag to include trans people, creating the Pride Progress flag.

“In 2021, Valentino Vecchietti of Intersex Equality Rights UK developed the Pride Progress flag design to incorporate the intersex flag.”

Intersex Equality Rights UK added that since sharing the new intersex inclusive Pride flag online, it had received lots of positive feedback from “intersex people and allies from all over the globe” who “said it is bringing them joy to see intersex inclusion”.

Intersex means a person who is born with variations in sex characteristics including chromosomes, gonads, sex hormones, or genitals that don’t fit the typical “male” or “female” definitions.

The Intersex Pride flag is a purple circle on a yellow backdrop. Designed by advocacy group Intersex Human Rights Australia in 2013, it intentionally stays away from traditionally gendered colours of blue and pink to celebrate the intersex community.

Explaining the meaning of the flag, the group states: “The circle is unbroken and un-ornamented, symbolising wholeness and completeness, and our potentialities. We are still fighting for bodily autonomy and genital integrity, and this symbolises the right to be who and how we want to be.”

Intersex Equality Rights UK is listed here as a 'charity being current established'. (archive.md)

Here's an article written by the founder (archive.md) that starts out seemingly reasonable, mostly revolving around campaigning against intersex children being sex reassigned as children, but then it takes a hard left into this....

End to legal classification of sex and gender entirely? Sex does not need to be a legal category for anyone?

I don't know about you all, but I feel like I've read enough of this thread plus Rat King to feel... concerned. So who is this Valentino Vecchietti? The above article describes them as:
Valentino Vecchietti works with universities on projects relating to intersex human rights and provides consultation in the arts. With psychotherapist Jane Czyzselska, they provide seminars and workshops for therapists working with intersex clients.

I also found a linkedin. She/they, a lesbian, immigrant, mixed POC. (KADAK is a South Asian women's collective apparently.)

Here's their personal comic "through the lens of Brexit". (acrhive.md) According to the comic, they were raised as a girl, started growing a beard and developing muscles, and then briefly tried to become FTM. (Also lesbians were mean to them.) By the way, by mixed-POC they mean: "my father was an immigrant from the southern Italian diaspora".

Here's a twitter: https://twitter.com/valentinointer

I'm just collating what I found here. Haven't dug deep enough to really conclude anything but I will say that the last time I heard "I'm a person of colour because my family is southern Italian" it was said by an ftm. And if this forum is any evidence, people LARPing being intersex isn't terribly uncommon. Anyway, even if I'm just being a huge asshole about someone who a medical condition that isn't just garden variety mental illness, it's also concerning that they're pushing for the abolishment of sex as a legal category under the banner of intersex human rights. I almost didn't catch the paragraph it was slid in so neatly after long sections about reassignment surgeries and discrimination.

IMO, growing a beard, developing muscles, being a lesbian and a tomboy are all actually within the realm of possibility for women who aren't intersex. But anyone here who knows about intersex conditions and the medical interventions around it, feel free to chime in.

Edit: also flipped through some of the twitter and... (archive.md)

Agreed, there’s a strong whiff of bullshit about this woman. She won’t name what her condition is, which is fair but also unusual; usually in activism concerning a specific disease or condition, the activist identifies exactly which issue they are personally dealing with in life.

Here it’s just “I was diagnosed intersex” in her comic, nothing further. And considering she attempted to transition via HRT (and by the looks of it, top surgery) it’s difficult to say if any masculinization of appearance is due to her alleged condition or the T she took for several years.

According to her LinkedIn, this “self employed” activist job is the only gig she has listed. No education, no other work or advocacy, nothing.

It's a fool's game to even try to dig at whether or not they're actually intersex.

Born in the 70s, back when doctors were asking the father what they'd like to raise the baby as when his baby's genitals didn't look quite right. Often not telling the mom. Kids raised during that time period sometimes don't even know they were born intersex, so good luck determining what went on in labor & delivery.

Doesn't know what particular intersex disorder they have. That's not unusual, because there's no medical indication for karyotype testing so insurance won't cover it, and it's quite expensive when you're paying out of pocket.

Intersex or not they still seem rather crazy (also Italians aren't people of color stop it)

While I hear the general consensus of intersex people is they hate being lumped in with troons and actual sexualities, because intersex is neither a mental disorder or sexual orientation, but rather, a genetic mutation. Which I agree with wholeheartedly, and it does sicken me to see how many troons, both HSTS and AGP, claim to be intersex all along, or with SRS, they are suddenly intersex, because they have a male body and female genitalia or whatever stupid fucking reason a troon will come up with. Unsurprisingly, the majority of intersex people against this are the older generation. It's the younger generation that's wanting to be lumped in with the LGBTQIA. And who knows if this younger generation is even fully made up of true intersex, or just like everything else that's a disorder, being intersex is now trendy and sets you apart from us evil cissies.

She lives in the U.K. and the NHS does cover genetic testing if it’s referred, but their list of reasons for testing mostly revolve around potential medical issues. In the comic she claims she started questioning her gender identity, went to the NHS and was told she had to see an endocrinologist and that's how she was diagnosed as intersex—before being immediately getting told to gender transition by her doctor. (Tangentially related, I also ran across the NHS page about intersex conditions and how they are handled.)

Anyway, I guess whether she’s lying or not, this entire not-yet-established-charity has big grift energy. Registered U.K. charities have to publicly file their finances, so it’ll be interesting to see where the money goes.

I feel for this person because unlike a normal tranny, they didn't choose to chose to be intersex. But at the same time, something about their face just sets off alarm bells in my brain. It's very uncanny valley. They don't even look like a real person, they look like an AI-generated face from thispersondoesnotexist.com. It's like you simultaneously look like a soyboy, a baby, and a 14 year old Ayden and put them in the machine from The Fly.

Did you know that dicks and clits are just the same things? Also women talk about their clits as much as men talk about their dicks, so talking about your clit is just part of fem speech. Also everyone is a woman now, there's no criteria involved whatsoever. In other news, these men are insane

Remember, ladies, you've been sharing bathrooms with trans women the whole time without even knowing it.

Women talk about vaginas frequently. I've never heard a woman just talk about her clit for some random reason.
