I think that restricting Off-Topic further would partially stem the tide of dox. People like this use information from Off-Topic to dox posters. Historically, cows haven't had much success in infiltrating us - I doubt many would be willing or capable of racking up a sizable number of positive ratings or maintaining an account for any long period of time to gain entry to Off-Topic.

I don't think that would help. Eventually someone would find a way to say, just make a shitty ween post or state the obvious and get 100 positive ratings within a week. Like DNJACK got plenty of positive ratings.

The only way such a system would work is if it was based on approval or if it was supporters only. Like Inner Circle is based on approval/length of membership, and to get supporters you need to donate to Null.

In my opinion, an application based system could actually work, if done right. It would be a lot of work for staff, but maybe trusted posters could be appointed to approve/deny someone or even vote on someone? It's micro-management and it's a lot of work, but it would be effective. I guess it all depends on whether Off-Topic is really worth the fuss. There's also the problems of elitism, irresponsible decision making and different people's different standards.
 
Or we could keep the current system and people could just either not post personal info to the site or not go full autism if an off-site person finds and posts it. This isn't some super-secret club, and we're not going to protect people from themselves or make super-secret safe places.

(reminder that semi-secret safe place Supporters forum costs $20 one-time or some small amount monthly)

Sometimes the people here get to used with the forum culture and start to circle jerk plus wanting to get noticed by lolcows.
It's pretty gay.
 
All forums are essentially gay. we will always feel smug about other forums and so on.
but that's besides the point here. what we could do is find a way to stop so much shit posting from people like Cat, Dysentia and DrChristianTroy, but Null said himself that doing so would cause an uproar with the forum's circlejerk. I really feel for Null for having to deal with shitposting.
