There is a part when he says "I'm a very, very hungry girl", like it's a fun, quirky thing to say. It's called being a boy, Jazz. Men often eat more than women because they need more calories.

I disagree with your interpretation of Jazz's behavior. You are not the first one who says that Jazz is very spoiled, and I don't get it... How is he spoiled? I actually think he is and was a pleaser, a child who looked to please his mother, and boy did it cost him.

I especially disagree about the part with him getting everything he wanted - that he wanted to be a girl and got it. This is a kid that at the age of two, not even three, was diagnosed by some "specialist" as transgender. Not even thred years old, what did he know? This is a kid his parents told him since he is less than three years old that he is a girl. Who really wanted it and got it? Was it he or Jeannette?

This boy is messed up psychologically thanks to his wonderful parents, especially his devoted mother. Think about how he has been told all his life, pretty much since he remembers himself, that he has a girl's mind in a boy's body. That he is girl, he just needs to fix himeself and he would be the perfect girl he always meant to be. Inverting your penis is an extremely crazy thing to do, but if this was presented to you as the thing you should strive for, and that this would make you whole and "correct", and finally you wouldn't be so different - you'd be just like any other girl, finally a real woman... Well, it makes much more sense. Especially since he was the star of his own reality show, a show he was not initiated and was not his idea (he was what? 11, 12, 13 when the show began? It wasn't his idea. He is not fame starved, never has been). And in this show, it was expected to do it by the end, this was the great finale.

When you think about all that, you can also understand how much pressure was on Jazz. It might explain his frequent anxiety attacks and anxiety in general. He probably felt that it's all too much all the time. (Also, the hormones might contributed to it).

His laziness might also be the result of deep depression and the feeling he has no control on his life. If he doesn't have control, what's the point of doing anything? Nothing goes the way he wants - if he even knows what he wants anymore.

Besides being lazy, he is not very spoiled at all. He doesn't ask for material stuff. He lives at his parents' house, sure. What he is supposed to do? The way he was raised, he is not fit to live on his own. His mother supposedly tending to his every wish is really just a guise. It's her controling his life, basically.

I have a lot of sympathy for Jazz, because I truly believe he is not at fault here at all. I believe him wanted to be a girl is the product of his mother's wish, who for some reason, I still don't really know why, wanted a trans kid. She'd probably also drag him to doctor and try to get him prescribed Adderall or Vyvanse and would herself be the one giving him the pill to make sure he takes it.

If they wanted to give Jazz plastic surgery, it would have already happened. Eating disorders are usually something to do with a maladaptive attempt at control, aren’t they? Look at celebrities with ED’s, both Karen Carpenter’s anorexia and Princess Diana’s bulimia were in part caused by their suffocating family situations, in Karen’s case, a big brother who exploited Karen for her talents and star quality, trapping her in a perpetual pseudo adolescence, unable to have an adult relationship with a romantic partner and Di was controlled to an insane degree due to marrying into The Firm for the purpose of producing an heir, and once she had been exploited for her uterus she was stuck, unable to have proper friendships, unable to have a career, married to a man who shagged his ex throughout (and no sympathy for her because heirs to the throne have always had mistresses).
No doubt they were both predisposed to poor mental health in some way, but the familial control and the EDs are symbiotic.

Fucking with the endocrine system is bound to have consequences (as well as not actually changing a person’s sex). Endocrinologists biggest patient group are diabetics and people with thyroid issues. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if long term, kids that never had a normal puberty end up at higher risk of both, you can’t just tweak one bit of the endocrinological system and not have knock on effects.

In my experience, this type of dynamic is fairly common in rich families. I mean the gender stuff is really out there but many rich kids grow up being both spoiled and treated like shit in various ways. Sometimes being spoiled is part of the abuse- the kid gets everything they ask for and then some, then those things are used as collateral to control them. The kid grows up with the effects of being spoiled while also having the effects of being psychologically abused. Jazz definitely strikes me as one of those kids. I think this thread glosses over the fact that Jazz is really the victim here. It’s easy to see a lazy spoiled rich young adult and blame them for not making more of an effort but it’s all part of the dysfunction in these families.

I knew a bunch of these kids in undergrad- they were the stereotypical rich kids who were super entitled, got hefty allowances and never worked, parents paid 100% of their school expenses and the kids never filled out a FAFSA or got a loan or scholarship, had nice cars and fancy clothes and shit. But they were also some of the most anxious and depressed people I knew, constantly worried about how people saw them or about disappointing their parents, jealous of the normal kids who were choosing their own paths. They’re lazy because they’re not in control of their own lives. I knew a kid who was temporarily homeless and had to drop out because he changed his major to something his mom didn’t like, so she cut him off financially and kicked him out of the house. Like less wealthy victims of psychological abuse in childhood these kids sometimes become profoundly fucked up people, but they’re judged more harshly.

With Jazz’s binge eating, I think it is as much about disassociation as it is control. When you are in the act of a binge, you literally have no control and go into a mild state where you disassociate from yourself and environment in order to avoid feeling anything at all besides the dopamine rush of food. Look at drug addicts or alcoholics who abuse ... you wouldn’t classify them as “in control”.

The fact that jazz binges rather than restricts seems to point to how truly miserable they are with (and in) their current body than pre surgery. Sadly, there is no medical intervention that can fix issues.

Maybe WLS, breast reconstruction, facial feminization may help him pass more, but it will never change that gnawing feeling that something isn’t right. They did a major disservice with the “girl brain trapped in a boys body” mantra bc no matter how many surgeries Jazz has, they will always have a “boys brain and underlying biological structure”.
