That's what's so tragic about it. We have no real way of knowing what he actually believes about himself and what is just an act. Really seems like he was gaslit into believing he's genderfluid because being gay isn't enough anymore, and he's only interested in drag because his mom forced him into it. I'm so tired of the "[x group] is at higher risk for depression and anxiety, be careful!", especially when it comes to groups of children and teens. They take self-reports of underdeveloped people to mean hard reliable data, always emphasizing risk of suicide and mental illness. It would make any normal kid feel like, "why would I want to be part of [x group] or be friends with someone from [x group] if it means a higher chance of illness and bullying?" Don't they know that most kids of teen age experience this feelings anyway, regardless of being LGBTQ, and that you would get similar if not higher numbers just by taking data of "emo" kids, or people who listen to a certain genre of music? It's almost like some kids are drawn to presenting this way because it stands out and rebels against society. I know I had the emo phase as a teen, and I bet some of you did too. This "drag kid" bullshit is nothing more than putting awkward and outcast teens (and kids) on the spot, and shining a light on the fact that they are "weird" and don't fit in.
Kids like Desmond may stop being bullied but it will just turn to them being ostracized. You can't force something to be accepted (especially with the young), and particularly when you're constantly focused on the strangeties and differences between them and everyone else. What ever happened to the type of acceptance that was like, "I'm just like you, we can all get along"? Can't help but feel, whoever made this is trying to force society not to accept them.

Thats cause actual drag queens (good ones anyway) actually have a sense of humor about themselves and their art. They can recognize the absurdity of it and that, while its hard work, it isn't a "super duper serious" art
