At this point the loans might have been unloaded on his mom. Often student loans have to be cosigned by parents. The government will get their money at some point in some way. It may not be from Ralph, but someone is going to be saddled with that debt. Unless he paid out of pocket for those classes and they just let him accrue debt and if that's the case, I would think a debt collector would come at some point. You can't just walk away from educational debt. It's one of those debts that is never forgotten.
