Most traditional politicians in the US are paranoid about Russia, so anything Russia related ends up looking shady to them. Plus a bunch of Russians connected to diplomats had gotten ousted from the US a month or so prior, possibly connected to spying on some American industries. So there was some genuine reason for spying on stuff like these calls, but at the same time you have a group assuming anyone being vaguely friendly with Russians must be up to something nefarious.

They probably felt they were doing everything appropriately for counter intelligence, but because of their hate of Trump and his reportedly being eager to get along with Russia were eyeing everyone around him with more suspicion than was sane.

That's something I've been wondering about. How it is that Moderates and Conservatives know Liberals and Extreme Liberals minds, but they don't know theirs? I think it comes into the Marxist theory of collectivism. Or it's older term "Tribalism".

Now tribalism is an innate evolutionary trait. It was required to defend the borders of your tribe from hostiles. We've observed Chimps who would disembowl other already dead chimps simply because they were not of the other tribe, just to send a warning. So it's easy to manipulate that. Collectivism or "Tribalism" is part of the Marxist doctrine. Tribalism is intensely brutal, if you are not of the tribe, you aren't considered even Human, but some sort of ambiguous entity of evil. And that's what Marxism use as a mechanical device. They make an emotional appeal which is an easy inroad to get a hook on people "compassion for the downtrodden" and then use that to implement tribalism "This entire group is responsible collectively".

It's basically exploiting psychological evolutionary traits Humans have in order to gain control of people. On a subconcious level, they don't believe their opposition is even Human.

Because conservatives and moderates are exposed to liberal ideas and paradigms constantly, day after day.

Meanwhile liberals are quite able to never experience a challenge to their paradigm.

Like the thought experiment of the island prince who couldn't conceive of ice. They have no reason to ever think outside their [hug]box.

2. Cities have a high density of humans.
3. Cities also tend to vote democrat, evidenced via the by county votes.

I'll be a broken record and say confirmation bias. He knows you can't read deeply into the statistics, while at the same time he believes all the reporting on coronavirus and how red states are handling reopening poorly. And since he seems to believe the reporting on CV so much, he may also believe in the fantasy of "containing the virus" to the point where there are almost no new cases.

Weird part is how the political bias will have guys like Nate thinking the blue states must have handled things best, so they'll look past hard data like Corona deaths that show how Texas and Florida (which I think also semi-opened?) haven't been nearly as negatively impacted as New York which did their absurd lockdown.

In a good faith investigation they'd assume they needed evidence of wrong doing before deciding a person was guilty and I will never in a million years imagine these people were acting in good faith, but I do think they believed their own bullshit that had them making assumptions left and right.

They were deluded from believing their own narratives that they saw a crimes where there weren't any and dreamed up conspiracies to explain why they had trouble finding evidence.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if someone like that bat shit insane chick lit writer Louise Mensch may really have had some genuine sources in the FBI feeding her information, because even the rank and file members of these organizations seem delusional and high off their own farts.
