UK General Election 2019, Brexit, and all things Britbong politics - No loicense required to post here!

Agreement is finally in Number 10's grasp.

The text that's taken months of officials' blood, sweat and tears has been agreed, at least at a technical level.

Now a paper's being drafted to present to the Cabinet tomorrow ready for the government's hoped-for next step - political approval from Theresa May's team, even though many of them have deep reservations.

Remember in the last 24 hours some of them have been warning privately that what's on the table is just not acceptable, and will never get through Parliament. Some even believe the prime minister ought to walk away.

But the government machine is now cranking into action. With a text ready, their long-planned rollout can begin.
The BBC's chief political correspondent Vicki Young said some ministers had "deep concerns" about the shape of the likely agreement, which critics say could leave the UK trapped in a customs agreement with the EU.

She said they would have to decide whether they could support it, and if not, whether to resign from cabinet.

Leading Brexiteers have already condemned the draft agreement, Boris Johnson saying it would see the UK remain in the customs union and "large parts" of the single market.

He told the BBC it was "utterly unacceptable to anyone who believes in democracy". "Am I going to vote against it. The answer is yes," he added.

And Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said "given the shambolic nature of the negotiations, this is unlikely to be the good deal for the country".

'Failure to deliver'
Both the UK and EU want to schedule a special summit of European leaders at the end of November to sign off the reportedly 500 page withdrawal deal and the much shorter outline declaration of their future relationship.

Brussels has insisted it would only agree to put the wheels in motion for the summit if agreement can be reached on the issue of the Irish border.

Ambassadors from the remaining 27 EU states will meet in Brussels on Wednesday.

If a deal is agreed with the EU, Mrs May then needs to persuade her party - and the rest of Parliament - to support it in a key Commons vote.

Conservative Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg said if details of the text reported by Irish broadcaster RTE were true, the UK would become a "vassal state" with Northern Ireland "being ruled from Dublin".

Such an agreement "failed to deliver on Brexit" and the cabinet should reject it, he told the BBC.

"I think what we know of this deal is deeply unsatisfactory," he said. "There seems to be growing opposition to these very poor proposals."

Meanwhile, following pressure from all sides of the Commons, ministers have agreed to provide MPs with a legal assessment of the implications for the UK of the Irish backstop and other controversial aspects of any deal.

Cabinet Office minister David Lidington said Attorney General Geoffrey Cox would make a statement to MPs and take questions ahead of the final vote on any Brexit deal.

MPs, he said, would get to see "a full reasoned position statement laying out the government's both political and also legal position on the proposed withdrawal agreement".

The Democratic Unionists' Westminster leader Nigel Dodds said he was pleased Parliament had "asserted its will" as it was imperative that all parties to the deal were clear in what way and for how long it would "legally bind" the UK.

Chequers minus it is. Whatever happened to no deal being better than a bad deal.

We should have been far more aggressive in negotiations with Brussels. They all but stated immediately after the referendum that they were going to bumrape us for having the temerity to leave, so we should have told them that unless and until they got serious, we'd basically go full on tax haven mode and steal all their big companies - and funnel money and support to Eurosceptics in Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, and Hungary.

I know it won't happen, and perhaps it shouldn't, but part of me wants to see Cummings sue those journalists into the ground. Sky News, the tabloids, all the old media. Sue them for libel, sue them for harassment. He'd have a case for it.

As they scream for mercy, Boris would turn his gaze to the BBC and issue an ultimatum. Axe the entire news team, or the BBC will be defunded entirely.

If Trump and Boris are remotely competent, this results in a rock solid "you and me against the world (but especially the EU)" agreement. If it doesn't both of them should neck themselves.

I'm surprised so much is being made of the US agreement vs the other Commonwealth territories. Sure it's a big deal, but so are the others.

Prior to joining the EU the UK held strong and very favorable trade deals with these territories, and from what I gather Canada and Australia are still putting forward some very good terms so I'm surprised more isn't being made of those and the other potential ones.

Even if he didn't have a fucking case he'd be able to sue them into the ground if they wanted. It's on the newspapers to prove that every single statement they have made is factual under the current libel laws (and even that defence isn't accepted sometimes)

"You're all Nazis for not believing everything the media says, now if you'll excuse me I need to go report my neighbor to the police for taking more than one walk today, the authorities told me I had to report them."

I am enjoying watching all the leftists on my local Facebook group "naming and shaming" anyone who dares defy lockdown (without context of course) I bet all of them would wonder why people in Germany reported Jews in the 40s. They managed to get some nurse's car egged because her picture and registration ended up on the group for "always going out without reason" and no one bothered to wonder why she would be doing that (or if going out to egg a car is I keeping with lockdown rules).

Another NHS nurse in the town I grew up in had her tires slashed and a note left telling her to stop breaking lock down left. Of course when the media picked it up it was all about "sensless vandles" and no mention of their reason.

I think lockdown and the media narrative have taught us very well why people rounded up Jews, gays and gypsies in the 40s and it is the people who are "horrified" by thought of it who are the main actors.

And just like that, the narrative collapses, and the media moves on. BoJo's work yesterday against the select committee facing questions seemed to act as the watershed the Cummings interview should've been (Don't expect Dom to go in front of the cameras again).

Meanwhile, a great article appeared on Spiked-Online, from an anonymous Journo pointing out just how shit the media's become as there were plenty of questions that could be asked, but modern journos are lazy and just want a fucking soundbite to go with whatever narrative they've already made up.

Good article. At first I wasn't convinced it was written by a journalist since there's no inside knowledge, but then I got to the last paragraph.

The media establishment needs shaking up. It is the old guard who are the problem. They keep pursuing 20th-century journalism. They sound the same, they write the same and, of course, they come from the same places. But we shouldn’t lose all hope for journalism. Many in the younger generation get it. I have seen first-hand what my peers can do and are doing. Once the new wave of journalists take the reins, the governments of the future will have to up their game.

What younger generation is he talking about? I can't think of any young people doing the YouTube news thing, and universities were still full of lefty activists last I heard.

You misread the article.

I quote:

It's projection and blame-deflection. Somehow I doubt it is the old guard of journalism, you know, back when it was a bit better, are the problem here.

The people doing youtube news now are certainly a younger generation. Even if 30s.

And in about a decade they will be replaced with the people that are in their late teans and early 20s now as is the way.

This was in Thornton in Leicestershire, right? I saw that and there was one photo that showed that the word "GRASS" was scratched into the paint. Sounds like there's something else going on there.

Then there's the online shamings of people who don't do the monged seal impressions for the NHS. Personally I'm tempted this evening to blast really obnoxious music out my windows on the big speakers to drown them out.

No I didn't, you're thinking of the "old guard" who began to retire twenty years ago. The current "old guard" are the current lot who've been in post the past decade or more and are pursuing old style tabloid journalism regardless of what paper they're supposed to be working for. The whole media's shit the bed and slowly seems to be getting worse, with the Kung Flu Pandemic really hitting home how shit it all is. You can lay that blame at the current lot of journos and editors. All of whom are invariably Uni educated trots from liberal enclaves and seem unable to try and think other ways.

Wair, what’s hapoened?

The Tory Mps have given up screeching for Cummings' head and Starmer's saying to move on as its not had the desired effect it was hoped. All its done is flush 40 potentially traitourous MPs on the government side into the harsh sunlight, all of whom either voted Remain in 2016, or voted consistently for the Surrender Treaty.

Even the PM's ratings immediately bounced back into positive territory, and they've returned to roughly where they were during the election in polling after an unusual glut in the 50% mark.

Basically the mob's failed to oust the key advisor or the PM as was clearly hoped from the bullshit the media span which included saying the Police were investigated (they weren't) and that he'd made repeated trips to Durham (he didn't).

There was plenty of shit they could've raked Dom over the coals over, like who the fuck drives an hour to check their eyesight? But no, they failed miserably and instead went with prepared questions which legitimately included "Regardless of who's fault it is, shouldn't you resign?" rather than listening and attacking the actual weak spots.

That’s what gets me about the media. They hate the dude’s gut and there are plently of legit ways to skewer him and they just don’t.

I don’t get them.

As for who would drive an hour to check to see if your eyesight holds up, I’ve known people to do trips like that.

They're lefties

Lefties have to skewer you in a way that aligns with their politics and worldview

Because EVERYTHING is politics to lefties. These are the people who are afraid adding dairy creamer to their coffee is endorsing white-supremacy, after all.

They can't separate ideology from anything , and their ideology doesn't have truth as a fundamental building block.

To lefties, there are no facts, in the post-modern sense that everything is just a social construct, there is no truth under anything, not even 1+1 = 2

Truth is negotiable.

So, they cannot attack him for factual things he's done wrong, they don't recognize this as a legitimate attack route or do, but, then the cognitive doublethink sets in and they know that by going that way, they'll be discrediting their own ideology.

So, they instead just attack with feelings-based slander like "you don't care" and "regardless of who fucked up, it's YOUR duty to be sorry and resign" or just make up lies because, well there's no such thing as fact, this is just us using the tools at our disposal to do what's right anyway and oust a political enemy.

And towards that end, so what if we manipulate the social - construct of society by false pretense? There's no such thing as "False" and even if there were, this is TOO IMPORTANT (tm) a goal to bring ethics into.

And anyone not part of the cult can see right through this paper-thin rationalization that ends up with opinions being promoted as truth, without a hint of irony being noticed by the publishers.

That's my take on why first-world media is across the board, shite, these days. The last 30 years of gatekeeping and extreme liberalism has meant that the media institutions have been purged of truth-seekers and replaced by self-promoters. The fact-checkers are now people who, on a fundamental/psychological level, DO NOT BELIEVE IN FACT, just thier own exalted feelings.

Papers are nothing but YouTube reaction videos, the "news" now is how the news itself FELT about something.

What actually happened is irrelevant to the discussion and only a nerdy autistic would obsess over FACTS.

A really fascinating Medium Article about how unfucking western media will probably be from the local level first, and talks of some models which are fascinating.

EDIT: Also, Nissan is keeping Sunderland open, while shutting Barcelona. Makes you wonder what would've happened has we remained in the EU, and the Jap trade deal had gone through. Feels like Honda's decision to close its UK factory means it might miss out on whatever boon will come out of the UK signing deals globally.

EDIT: Also, looks like old "Bad Al" Campbell will have to hand in his sobriety chip again:

I heard somewhere that Alistair Campbell, before he became Blair's spin doctor, was the person who answered the letter columns in a porno mag. I also heard that was how he met Princess Tony in the first place. I don't know how true that is though, but it is something I have been informed in the past.

EDIT: Jolyon Maugham, the Hampstead Fox Batterer, is weighing in and passing round the begging bowl for more crowdfunded lolsuits.

From Popbitch:

Can it be true what we hear? That Britain's most prominent lockdown shirkers, Dominic Cummings and Kirstie Allsopp, were a one-time twosome? (And, worse yet, that Dom was supposedly a cracking shag?)

i can’t fap to this
