UK General Election 2019, Brexit, and all things Britbong politics - No loicense required to post here!

Agreement is finally in Number 10's grasp.

The text that's taken months of officials' blood, sweat and tears has been agreed, at least at a technical level.

Now a paper's being drafted to present to the Cabinet tomorrow ready for the government's hoped-for next step - political approval from Theresa May's team, even though many of them have deep reservations.

Remember in the last 24 hours some of them have been warning privately that what's on the table is just not acceptable, and will never get through Parliament. Some even believe the prime minister ought to walk away.

But the government machine is now cranking into action. With a text ready, their long-planned rollout can begin.
The BBC's chief political correspondent Vicki Young said some ministers had "deep concerns" about the shape of the likely agreement, which critics say could leave the UK trapped in a customs agreement with the EU.

She said they would have to decide whether they could support it, and if not, whether to resign from cabinet.

Leading Brexiteers have already condemned the draft agreement, Boris Johnson saying it would see the UK remain in the customs union and "large parts" of the single market.

He told the BBC it was "utterly unacceptable to anyone who believes in democracy". "Am I going to vote against it. The answer is yes," he added.

And Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said "given the shambolic nature of the negotiations, this is unlikely to be the good deal for the country".

'Failure to deliver'
Both the UK and EU want to schedule a special summit of European leaders at the end of November to sign off the reportedly 500 page withdrawal deal and the much shorter outline declaration of their future relationship.

Brussels has insisted it would only agree to put the wheels in motion for the summit if agreement can be reached on the issue of the Irish border.

Ambassadors from the remaining 27 EU states will meet in Brussels on Wednesday.

If a deal is agreed with the EU, Mrs May then needs to persuade her party - and the rest of Parliament - to support it in a key Commons vote.

Conservative Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg said if details of the text reported by Irish broadcaster RTE were true, the UK would become a "vassal state" with Northern Ireland "being ruled from Dublin".

Such an agreement "failed to deliver on Brexit" and the cabinet should reject it, he told the BBC.

"I think what we know of this deal is deeply unsatisfactory," he said. "There seems to be growing opposition to these very poor proposals."

Meanwhile, following pressure from all sides of the Commons, ministers have agreed to provide MPs with a legal assessment of the implications for the UK of the Irish backstop and other controversial aspects of any deal.

Cabinet Office minister David Lidington said Attorney General Geoffrey Cox would make a statement to MPs and take questions ahead of the final vote on any Brexit deal.

MPs, he said, would get to see "a full reasoned position statement laying out the government's both political and also legal position on the proposed withdrawal agreement".

The Democratic Unionists' Westminster leader Nigel Dodds said he was pleased Parliament had "asserted its will" as it was imperative that all parties to the deal were clear in what way and for how long it would "legally bind" the UK.

Chequers minus it is. Whatever happened to no deal being better than a bad deal.

We should have been far more aggressive in negotiations with Brussels. They all but stated immediately after the referendum that they were going to bumrape us for having the temerity to leave, so we should have told them that unless and until they got serious, we'd basically go full on tax haven mode and steal all their big companies - and funnel money and support to Eurosceptics in Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, and Hungary.

Absolutely. A piece of doggerel springs to mind:

Thank God, the British Journalist.

Unbribed, there's no occasion to.

And now, there's going to be a real life Two Minutes Hate tomorrow at 8.00 pm.

Lol. I wonder how many people will turn out and actually do it. So far the hashtag seems to be confined to FBPE cretins.

It's also some "musician" I've never heard of and probably just screams into a mic and calls it artwork rather than saying anything.

Shame the media's so fucking pathetic as those are the sorts of arseholes who need crucifying.

"B-but Dominic Cummings so clearly broke the law!"

Groan. No he did not. The regulations don't say you can't do what he did. He was assisting with childcare and/or looking after a vulnerable person.

Personally, I'm tempted to call the Met on the journalists who were foaming outside his door. That's clearly an unauthorised mass gathering against the regulations.

I think Cummings was in the right, but the messaging from Government coupled with how local police have handled things has - I think in part - led to the media having the ability to do this.

I did originally consider the whole "Protect the NHS" mantra useful as it used the old national pride tatic to get people in lockstep, even the "I'm European" types. Which helped at first - drawing rainbow pics, encouraging people to find ways to pitch in even if it's just morale boosting. Heck even the clap for the NHS thing was nice at first.

Then it all started to get twisted, I guess when you have people cheering for you - you can choose to appreciate the gesture, or get a bit of an ego about it or fussed about how many people "comply" with the effort. Each clap session became more and more a case for people to hit up social media to complain about who *didn't* come out to clap. It's also led to a lot of FB posts from UK resident friends and family complaining that any attempt to move away from lockdown is like spitting in the face of nurses and doctors. The person who originally proposed the idea now feels it's being used negatively.

Not to mention Police being a little too vigilant with lockdown reminders in parks ect. I get that people will forget or get lax about it, but it overall has led to everyone wanting to tattle on each other for minor infractions and being half afraid of the very concept of coming out of lockdown. The messaging almost worked too well, and has made coming out of lockdown a nightmare with a good portion of the country half-terrified at the prospect.

I was on a train to London last year and an XR supporting person who "worked for charities" casually expressed their support for old people dying off as quickly as possible to stop being a burden on "the rest of us". He was cheerful, outwardly friendly with the faint undercurrent of psychosis. I told him he'll probably feel differently when he's Seventy and he confidently asserted that he wouldn't. (Bullshit). I think if someone of them could have both the lockdown AND a mass die off rather than it (theoretically) being a choice, they'd be happy as Larry.

I had to go into London a few years ago during the same day there was a huge "People's Vote" protest. A guy got on our underground train and started painting his face in the EU flag. Which was a rather ill advised idea. Pretty much rattled off the usual "Brexit voters are dum/racist/old" and "the whole thing is different now so peoples vote". It's hard to take someone seriously when they look like a human blueberry.

Liz Truss said trans kids shouldn't be legally recognized and her own party, the "conservative" Tories, dogpiled her over it. I don't care about Brexit that much because the left has won in Anglo-world. OI BRUV I VOTED LEAVE SO ME COOL TRANS FRIENDS WON'T FACE DIVINE PUNISHMENT AT THE HANDS OF THIRD WORLDERS BRUV

I think Piers Morgan is going to have a stroke, all his bigging himself up and giving Boris ultimatums and he just got completely mugged off by Classic Dom.
He's "banned" the cabinet from GMB. Which is hilarious because they're not going near his ranting shitty show who's ratings have halved during a lockdown in which watching TV is pretty much the only option available to millions at the minute.
He was the most exceptional person out of all of this IMO. This guy has been asking "tough questions" to government MPs (reeeing and screaming to MPs for not knowing names and exact numbers of dead people), leading to a divisive "interview" with an MP who came on to talk about domestic violence in the home as a result of the lockdown. He turned it into a "shout and name call the MP for not knowing names and numbers" when that wasn't the purpose of the interview, it was to talk about domestic violence at home (which I suspect is probably up if everyone is stuck at home). As a result, his show has basically been put on the government shit list, no one is going onto GMB. We know this because he doesn't stop issuing challenges to the government to send someone on or bitching about not getting interviews.

Now he's decided to "ban" the cabinet until Cummings is gone. Which is it faggot? Do you want the government to send people on to debate you, or do you want to ban them all?

The best thing Piers Morgan has ever done is get decked by Clarkson. I bring this up because he's so dry of material he's brought it back up again.
Also #ScumMedia is trending on twatter. Blue ticks are losing their shit over how it's clearly a manufactured hashtag by a Tory troll farm. Blaming Russian hackers in 3, 2, 1...
EVERYTIME!

Getting kind of tired of the clap for NHS each Thursday.
My sisters a nurse and only really cared for it the first week, and now says that the people around her use it as a chance to break social distancing and go back to handshakes without hand washing.
Just some food for thought.

Sky now camping outside and trying to doorstep his parents place. Voices saying #scummedia are some russian hashtag getting buried hard by people pointing out how shit the UK media's become.

Amazing, really is.

Wonder how their trust will go now after this stupid incident? It was already running at people thinking their coverage was bad at like 50%.

After the Cummings conference Boris did his his daily briefing and announced reopenings on the 1st and 15th of June- the biggest news in weeks and something that affects everyone in the country.
Well, don't be surprised if you haven't seen or heard anything about it on TV or in the papers because the exact same journalists who had been frustrated and outwitted by Cummings an hour before just decamped to the prime minister's questions afterwards and asked exactly the same questions again and again. You could see the hatred on their faces, it was an unbelievable dereliction of duty and made clear their lack of professionalism and how personal this vendetta is to them.

I like to imagine him and George Soros sharing a pint of emotional support ice cream while sobbing uncontrollably over the EU burning down no matter how much cash they try to smother the fires with as of late.....

The only people I saw who were agreeing with the press are the morons who think Corbyn being held to account for the places he went, people he hung out with and images showing him attending things like IRA funerals was "unfair" and "out of context".

Lots others I've seen are sick of the story already and seem to be wondering what the press is busy burying.

Slight question, on Guido Fawkes I keep seeing polls saying Boris's approval rating is down we also know trust in the media is in the toilet. I'll hazard a guess the former is selective polling?

Douglas Ross resigns from government over Cummings.
IDK what the fuck this genius is doing? Maybe he wanted out and wanted to return to being a backbencher, do less work and collect his salary. He's a Scot. so being exceptional is part of the course.

Also, some more cringe from Piers Morgan.

I really would love to hear what Piers Morgan thinks makes a side of history right, if not that it's popular? It almost sounds like he's being threatened by the scorekeeper of history, and I didn't think he held any virtues above popularity.

Maybe, but does approval matter at this point in time? They have till 2024 to boost it up again and are completely unopposed in parliament due to their overwhelming majority. If there was any time to do unpopular things or have approval drop, it's now, not 1 to 2 years before the next election.

Was thinking it would be funny if #PoundingPiersMorgan trended with people send him loads of dick pics and general faggotry. He asked for people to keep "pounding" him, so that would brighten his day. That won't happen though, twitter is too far up their own ass with being morally correct.

Pretty much what I thought, will it even be remembered in a few months after lockdowns over tbh? That was browns mistake towards the end tbh.

Nows the time for "unpopular" things to happen. Remember, polling also said that Brexit magically became unpopular before the public voted for the Tories by a good 10% over the other parties who were all offering a second referendum and a majority greater than the height of Mrs T.

Poll after poll was published that said Brexit was a dead idea and that we definitely need the People's Vote Campaign to say yes we should have a "confirmatory" referendum. Nobody knew which way was the right way and proposals were made to

Damien McBride incident happened after Brown already bottled the GE and was taunted for a long time by David Cameron, he was already on the down and out by "bottling" an October 2008 election chance that would've at least seen them held on for another parliament.

The media also don't like the repeated polling showing public distrust in them which has been shown to be happening a few times now. In fact media distrust went up during the lockdown because of the bizarre, campaigning behaviour of the media at present. They've basically declared themselves as the
