On one of the Sanders-Biden 1v1 debates, Joe, totally unsolicited, declared he'd make a woman his running mate and probably a woman of colour to boot. This surprised many, especially since Bernie was blindsided by this and ummed and erred into agreeing on stage that he'd do the same.
If your VP is going to be a woman of colour, that substantially narrows the candidate pool down. Stacey Abrams thinks she's in with a shot, narrowly losing in Georgia might put that state in the running for 2020, and she's ideologically close enough to Biden they could 'stay the course' with her. She's blatantly power-grabbing here and trying to prod DNC apparatchiks into backing her bid, but from where I'm sitting, who are the viable alternatives under such criteria? Usually the VP is a reserved, self-assured type of character so as to not overshadow the presidential nominee, but we all know Biden's not gonna last 4 years. With this, their VP pick probably has to already be a familiar face nationwide. Abrams has the profile, and her rivals in this front include AOC, who even if she were old enough to be on the ticket the DNC despises; and Kamala Harris. A woman who tanked her own reputation by going into the debates with dirty laundry and thinking the Samoan Sharpshooter wasn't going to call her out on it. You can't lock in the minority vote with a black woman that locked up loads of minorities for frivolous reasons.
So even if Stacey Abrams wasn't Stacey Abrams, I don't blame her for thinking she's entitled to the VP slot. If the DNC wants they could pitch her angle as tackling structural inequalities, from gerrymandered elections to Literal Lynchings, both of which occurred in her home state if you believe her rhetoric.

Yep, he’s been talking about her being VP from day one of his clusterfuck of a campaign. My scorching hot take is that this is the DNC checking a sassy negress who thinks she’s more important than she actually is. She still likely has a good shot at being VP but only once she realizes that she needs to be brought in line by DNC leadership and an old white man. This was an act by a huwhite man and his leadership to tell this black woman to know her place.
Glad to see racism alive and well in the Democratic Party in 2020

if you polled people I guarantee more people would say that stacy abrams is fat vs trump. No one would say either of them is in shape of course, but you have to cross a certain threshold before people start to discriminate based on weight. The standards in place tend to be a lot harsher towards women for various reasons, but it also appears superficially to me that she has a higher bmi. Chris christie is more the level of fat that she is, and people definitely look down on him for his weight.

ALso the only VP pick that could conceivably not immediately outshine a dementia-riddled old white man who doesn't know when to not sniff someone's hair on camera.
But Joe's really put them in a pickle by saying he wants POC woman.
My guess, they go the Elizabeth Warren route.
No, not picking Warren, but someone like her who, while white as fleet Chevrolet Express van, has "proof" of POC blood in her DNA so she's TOTES a minority woman just like Joe said. And she'd have to be charismatic enough that people don't immediately roll their eyes at the obvious by-letter-but-not-by-spirit-of-the-law games being played, Warren's got the same dime store novelty rubber mask look as all the major DNC stronk wahmens from excessive wine consumption and whine expulsion..... that's a no go.
