I love the emotional rollercoaster alcoholics take, from total confusion, to deep emotion and affection, to incomprehensible aggression in the span of 15 minutes. I actually feel vicariously how shitty Ralph is going to feel tomorrow morning.

Memory loss is a common side effect of benzos. It's not just like blacking out and forgetting shit you've done (though that happens too), but it can involve forgetting how to do shit because you're so intoxicated. He's basically blackout drunk. That's why I think it's benzos and not just alcohol and especially not opiates.

Maybe he's been buying drugs the whole time and we just couldn't notice til now. But I kind of don't believe that. I think the stress is getting to him, that's the reason he started drinking and popping pills again. I do believe he stopped drinking for a while, since this massive uncontrolled binge is characteristic of drug addicts when they fall off.

That's a good point. Maybe he just relapsed now because he tried to quit drinking. Or maybe his mom got a new script and he just couldn't help himself. Who knows.

I would assume you don't have a lot of experience with addicts. This is nothing out of the ordinary for someone like Ralph.
