Detractors give Phil some money and are keeping some interest in him, but I think he'd be in roughly the same position either way.

Online content is numbers-based. Once you get the viewers and attention, it's just as hard to lose it, as long as enough rich company people want to keep you around. There's many examples of popular creators releasing pure trash, but it doesn't matter.

There's also dumb luck. Phil is very lucky to not be banned on Youtube and Twitch. He could be at any time for many things he's done.

And there's this like disgusting little beanie baby in the background, it's just so surreal. I love this photo in this context.

A fuckin 40 year old boomer yelling at the umpire or whatever for some call in a virtual baseball video game like he's at a sports bar with his bros and has money down. All while this sad beanie baby with those creepily big eyes looks on in sorrow and horror.

Id say youre watching somebody lose their mind in real time but you cant break damaged goods.

That's his player's name. He chose that, because Phil is unable to take anything more seriously than your average sixth-grade boy.

ETA: I'm not saying that a video game is srs bzns, just that any game with a chargen is just an excuse for Phil to strap on the clownshoes and go to town. Cf: every From Software title.

ETA: it's more sad when you realize this is all artifice. He's just miming behavior that he thinks is appropriate - Phil doesn't know Thing One about baseball. He doesn't follow any sports, he doesn't care and he's completely ignorant. It's all an act, and he does the same thing with every sports game he plays. When he played FIFA he raved about Rooney because that was the only name he recognized. When he played Madden he acted like a beer-swilling superfan. Phil only understands a wider range of human behavior in the scope of broad stereotypes. He's without question grade-S exceptional.

For the benefit of whom, considering not even his fans find it entertaining, is a question for smarter people than myself.

Hey Im not judging that. Im equally as stupid in that department. I mean I had already made the leap.

It's one thing, though, to laugh with childlike joy at "Napoleon Bonerfarte", but to then turn with autistic rage and set your sights on somebody because they called you a faggot or beat you at a video game, it's ridiculous. It's like, dude be one or the other. If youre a clown, be a clown--laugh and the world laughs with you, or at you at least. At least theyre smiling and laughing, I guess, there are worse things for the world and the human condition in general.

Actually now that I think about it, I dont watch his streams, but that's kind of why they suck. He isnt having fun, so his chat isnt having fun. If you look at any other successful streamer, they interact with chat, and they let chat have fun. Yes it's like herding cats, toddlers and turtles, but every other streamer knows that the point of having a stream is the chat. Somebody may be annoying the streamer but in the bigger picture, the streamer has to ignore that one message because there are hundreds of others. Phil will stop his stream, scroll back up to somebody calling him a boomer or something, and then go on a rant about how dumb that person is and theyre an ignorant detractor and he's gonna have a prestream about how much he isnt a boomer to clear up the inconsistencies. Any time theres bait on the hook he will take it and I guess that's actually part of his draw; how he's kept afloat and kept attention--every nobody wants to come fucking fly by and shit on him because he's an easy target. The only thing he took away from business college was how to keep his name in peoples' mouths.

Paraphrasing Phil last night: "I used to make sexual jokes. I don't any more. I've matured and grown. Those jokes are only funny to children who slurp them up like spaghetti. Sure I may say 'shitty dicks' but I'm not talking about actual penises. It's just a saying."

His character is literally a dick joke. Everyone can see it. His prestream songs have subject matter involving "two tig bitties", beastiality, "you got raped, too fuckin bad, etc.

Phil still makes sexual jokes. It has been pointed out that Phil only refrains from making jokes that sexualize women. These jokes mysteriously stopped when Kat entered the picture.

My theory is that Kat told him to stop. Phil did not grow or mature. He made the compromise that he would stop treating video game women as objects so he could use real life Kat as a maid and trophy to show off.

I missed an epic rant last night apparently.

The kernel of truth I got out of it is that DSP legitimately believes that the money people currently donate to Tevin and LSB used to go to him and now doesn't.
 
There was a part of his epic rant last night that says so much about Phil and how little effort he’s willing to put into his career. He says that if it wasn’t for the detractors, he would have “adapted” and changed his content to edited shorter vids to stay on top of the “YouTube food chain”. Putting aside the fact that the idea that there’s no way Phil stays that popular once more talented creators entered the space, essentially what he is saying is that he knows he could be doing much better if he changed how he did things, but he’s entirely unwilling too. Despite how adamant he is that his life is falling apart around him, he won’t put the slightest amount of effort in trying something new.

It’s something I often see with underachievers and losers. “I could have gotten an A if I tried and put int the work, but I didn’t care enough.” Eventually everyone has to realize that putting in the work is the important part and, in the real world, that no one gives a shit what you could have done, only what you did.

I think the most ironic thing is that any time he wants to he can turn it all around. Personal Brand Consultants are a thing. Shit, Live Stream Consulting - a thing I just randomly typed into google - is also apparently a thing.
For the most part I'd put almost all of those folks in the same pile as 'personal coaches', but if I was truly floundering like Dave you bet your ass I would try at least a few just to see.
When I hated my technology niche, I hired someone to re-write my resume and have it focus more on what I wanted to do. And it worked!

If he was smart, he'd use his detractors to actually affect a come back. It really wouldn't be hard at all to make them - make us - seem pathetic. Just LARP a normal mid-30s dude. Stop sounding like a male Fran Drescher. Stop insulting your fans. Laugh at every fucking DSP joke people say to you. This shit isn't tough.

The issue with a good chunk of these underachievers is a fear of failure. They fail ironically because it hurts less than if they gave 110% and they still failed.

I think some of that applies to DSP. He blames the false copyright strikes, TIHYDPs, and people taking his videos out of context because in his mind those are external things outside of his control. It would be too crushing to his ego if DSP did the edited videos, did the thumbnails, did all those things that "fake Youtubers" do and he still failed. So he keeps failing ironically because he's convinced himself that he would have succeeded if it wasn't for those meddling detractors and LSB's dog.

Phil won't change since he did nothing wrong, he did everything correct.

Anything a consultant might say Phil has a counter lined up. Maybe don't snort into the mic, dood I have a medical condition. Maybe stop yelling at people on Twitter, dood I literally never did that. Maybe be a good sport and quit blaming others, dood it wasn't my fault. Maybe put more effort into the stream, dood I have no time. Etc.

And then we would get a rant about how some idiot consultant wasted his time and money and did nothing to help. He now needs money to make up for lost time streaming and to pay him.

I know, I know. I think that's why I can't stop watching; it's all so blatantly obvious on how one or 2 little changes would make a differences in the end.

The 5 Stages of Watching DSP
  1. DENIAL - "No, no way. There's no way he isn't playing a character. He's acting. No one is this dense. 100% acting."
  2. ANGER - "Is he.. he really is this guy. How can anyone actually put THIS CONTENT online and EXPECT TO MAKE MONEY FROM IT?! HOW IS HE DOING IT?! HOW?! JUST FUCKING HOW?!"
  3. BARGAINING - "No, I know, he's playing the long game. He's putting this stuff out there, so the detractors make their content, which gets people to watch DSP, and some of them will donate. Right? I mean, it makes sense"
  4. DEPRESSION - "It's so sad how a person can lack any kind of meta cognition, and not be able to see this. I feel bad for the guy. He's going to die alone and everyone will laugh at him at his funeral."
  5. ACCEPTANCE = "Dave is a fucking moron, and has no idea how moronic he is. I'm going to watch and see just how long this cockroach can make it last"
 
I don't think any consultant could repair Phil's image. I can only see it being possible by him quitting streaming, or at least taking a significant break. He can turn into the greatest guy, and laugh at himself, but we'll know he's doing it for money and he has way too much e-begging to recover from.
 
I'm either under the impression I slowly turn senile or Phil's explanations are extra gibberish and nonsensical lately. Like, I can't follow his narratives anymore, he's contradicting himself constantly and single-handedly debunks everything positive about himself (the stuff he told us for years) seemingly without even noticing. It's just like he isn't even present in the local universe anymore but in a very different space-time where the laws of logic only work for him alone. The rant during his MLB stream is just an example, nothing he said made any coherent sense, words leave his mouth but they either mean nothing or at least draw a horrible picture of him.
Example: He was always the real him, not an actor, not a clown, a real person. Then someone called him out on his Racism Space accident and he tells YES this was the real him, he wanted to see how far he can get in he lawless world of Youtube (WTF). And as we also know, because he told us, he was only punished because trolls reported him (or else he would just continue). How can you say that and not realize how stupid you sound?
 
mister metokur is currently streaming about sargon's disastrous ukip run and mentioned our boy dave! he has outlasted everyone, including the soyfather himself. he can't be stopped.

I really hope he brings this up during a prestream or on twitter.

"APPARENTLY, someone on youtube got in this political-type thing in the YOUKAAY? and he lost?"
 
If anyone out there still believes there's any truth to DSP's repeated claims that Youtube doesn't mean anything to him anymore and functions just as an archive, then here's a prime example of how two-faced he can be when switching to Youtube mode. Also note how very aware he is about starting the Youtube recording only after finishing his toxic rant. It's almost scary how swiftly he changes (read: acts out) his mood.
