👓 TGWTG The Spoony One / Spoony / Noah Antwiler and Rachel Baker / @RaeAngel07 - The touching romance between a washed-up videogame reviewer throwing a decade-long pity party and his delusional Canuck stalker. #weaknotsick #donttellmehowtosulk

Don't the RenFaire set actually swing around weapons and get hit and otherwise do stuff to at least get their heart rate up? Given what we know of Spoony's physical condition (and overall health in general, given the gonaherpasyphilaids) the act of unfolding his leatherman would probably have him wheezing.

I give them that acknowledgement, but "assheaded" as in head in ass and self important braggarts who are but nerds with a hobby to throw their weight around. It's a bit of baggage from me, but a lot of geek and fantasy fans who also like martial arts and such usually get so powerhungry, irresponssible, and fatheaded when they learn the ways, that the ego problem becomes very apparent. This especially goes for European Martial Arts and their massive inferority superiority complex, which they go on to use to disproportionately bully random people off the street who have a general affinity towards katanas and tweener hormone addled anime fans that spout ignorant shit than anyone their level, rather than teach and correct them than be a bigger level of dick in return. And even then, they ruin that by being mouthy smug know nothing know it alls. Even for the young and stupid, even I got standards, and sadly, they not only spoiled my interest in knight based martial arts, but also give a pretty damn bad name to EMA in general.

The main point is that Spoony shares that mentality, and how he brags about "knowing what to do in the heat of conflict" and his twittle dick nothing knife. Much like them, he's no role model of responsibility and integrity to look up towards. Please excuse the tl;dr.

[Domain knowledge stuff snipped for length.]

OK, that makes sense. I have only a tangential connection to that scene, so I've never seen them in the wild, as it were.

I mean, the first tweet in that chain highlights how little he understands the concept on a basic level: the whole point of training is to condition your reflexes to the point where you don't have to think in a pressure scenario, you do it automatically. It's not like chess, where you're actively studying a flowchart you have mapped inside your head all the time.

Ah yes, the classic cow attitude towards hypothetical confrontations. Where they believe that, despite never getting any exercise what so ever, they have plenty of stamina and strength. And, despite having no combat training at all, they can easily fight off multiple attackers.

When you constantly indulge media that play out these kinds of scenarios, it can mess with your perception of reality.

There's also a lot of spiritual concepts and matters of the mind one has to engage before they can change their thinking to achieve that level of reaction, and this has to go along with training for a long time. Plus, being in a school really does help, regardless of what style one takes up. There's a whole lot that I honestly can't fully put down in the thread without going tl;dr, but I'll say that again, Noah has none of the bite to back up his pathetic bark, and that he's the kind of egotistical lolcow who I know has no integrity to even touch the kind of work to attain his preconcived notions of "leet skills". He also has the kind of mind that's going to get himself killed, whether he accepts this fact or not.

Is some of the most entertaining content he's come up with for awhile.

Yes, a knife is a dangerous weapon in the right or wrong hands. But the idea of a LARPer being able to do anything with one is pretty funny. Not only that but a knife like this is an expert weapon- it's not made to be jabbed deep in someone's ribcage like a fairbairn-sykes. It's a slashing device that means you need either the element of a surprise (come up from behind someone, kill the girl you have tied up in your dungeon, etc) or some amazing skill and luck because most people aren't going to stand there and let you put it against their soft parts and slit. And it's really only effective at a Goldilocks distance. It's not a good defensive weapon.

Also, people who are good enough to fight with it would probably do their best to depend on anything else first (like a gun) because they realize how difficult knife fighting tends to be, and how everyone ends up bleeding.
