Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I knew reading this thread again would piss me off. Now I'm filled with a fervent desire to rip Bob Iger's face off and staple it to his ass.
I won't even go into detail as to what I'd like to do to Kennedy and Johnson, but I'll give you a hint... it's very similar to what Red Letter Media did to those vintage SW figurines.

Fuck me, where my goddamn tophat?! I'm Mad On the Internet again.

Unless Disney, Rian, Kennedy, and co. knew about Carrie dying ahead of time, we also have to take into consideration that same unknowing. Considering the context of the events from TLJ, I think they were screwed no matter what they did after Carrie died.

Disney reportedly had a $50m insurance policy out on Fisher, so clearly someone was on the ball there. Given her well-known history of evil living, they would have been even bigger idiots than even we think they are to do otherwise (though I am curious what sap they got to issue that policy, and what premium they paid for it.) Graceless expiration should have been priced into her stock, but they apparently wanted to make her the star of the final episode.

They chose... poorly.

That would explain a lot. Most of the new stuff that appears in Disney Wars that isn't original is based on pre-production material and a lot of the new aliens and worlds seen in the DEU, Rebels and Resistance are either original or based heavily on rejected or unused concept art and ideas from past media. Disney's desire to replace and eliminate not just previous elements but OT heroes as well shows that they may have legal issues with them or that they simply don't want to keep paying anyone (especially 3rd party creators and actors) royalties for them.

I don't know, Disney doesn't seem like the kind of company that would sign a contract without throwing it into their pit of lawyers first.

Since the Fox merger is going to happen sadly, I got some questions about Star Wars in the future.
  1. Do you all think Disney will shift from Lucasfilm and focus a lot on Fox instead?
  2. Since they’ll have all the remaining rights to Episodes 1-6 now, will Disney release all of them in their theatrical cut.
  3. If Disney gets around releasing them on blu-Ray, why do I get the feeling they’re going to have it be shit.

1. Probably not. Star Wars is going to print money until the end of time. They might scale it back a little bit but I doubt that they'll just stop with Star Wars for a decade or more.

2. Probably so.

3. :feels:

That’s interesting because aside from them taking over distribution and marketing and Marvel getting the X-Men, I feel like Fox wouldn’t be bastardized by Disney since they’re retaining much of the executives and presidents of production from Fox.

Disney now controls 40% of the film industry. Be careful what you buy.

For all the shit that Rian Johnson gets, I'll keep some of the blame off of him as it is clear that Disney did not have this thing mapped out from start to finish.

They got the brand and just wanted to make it big and make the moolah, but somehow they didn't put as much thought into how the story would get from start to finish.

If they did, they would have realized that producing a film every year was ridiculous and self defeating because it would only make the films less special and not allow proper time to develop these movies and make them the best they can be.

They may slow down or even pause movies for a while but there are rumblings they're getting ready to vomit up TV shows left and right instead. They already have two confirmed and there are rumors of three or four more in the pipeline.

As a non-Star Wars guy I think there's a 50/50 chance that Last Jedi was in fact a troll by Ruin. So many obvious plot threads to explore and he just cut off pretty much every single one. It's like this guy got inspired by Alien 3 only that was a good movie and taking a hard right turn in that instance could be justified by the fact that it was a horror franchise. But when you do that to a light-hearted Sci Fi/Fantasy it just doesn't quite work. Maybe Alien 3 is the wrong kind of comparison (because I will defend that film to the death) but you get what I mean hopefully.

Alien 3 was fucked over by the studio.

The Last Jedi was fucked over by the director.

This is why Kevin Fiege has had a one up over Kennedy for the past decade. He has carefully planned out what I like the call the Thanos Saga (Iron Man 2008-Avengers Endgame) and outline exactly how it should be planned out.

Disney and Kennedy on the other felt that they needed to Marvelized the Star Wars saga and that has backfired hard.
