Anytime anybody does that shit in a trauma support group, they get shut down pretty quick by people telling them to stop with the oppression olympics. It keeps the community from turning into a pissing contest when one person can be a complete fuck up and blame it on that one time her boyfriend fingered her while she was half asleep, and feel she has the same insight as some chick that has been forcibly prostituted and gang banged a hundred times, and then the first chick gets mad the second chick gets sympathy.

I agree entirely, and I think it does help emphasise how even the most seemingly benign modern technology and know-how can cause apocalyptic levels of carnage if used correctly even if the people you are seeking to carry out the genocide are literal third world peasants with little more than farming tools at their side.
Bit of a tangent but it would have made Black Panther a hell of a lot more interesting and the villain a hell of a lot more compelling if Wakanda had taken advantage of the slave trade to subjugate its local rivals and sell them to Arab/European slavers in exchange for resources they needed to build their high tech society, and then covered this and subsequent aid and assistance to imperial powers up for centuries in order to maintain its own ultra-nationalist self-image.

Who gave people the idea that a bunch of white dudes were just running around Africa, rounding up slaves? That's an awful lot of work for a fucking merchant sailor, who could be transporting something else instead.
No. Many african tribes had a glorious tradition of war, and enslaving the losers. Hell, better than killing them, right? And they realized the various traders would buy slaves from them, so there was a lot of demand, so they stepped up the enslavement game.
It's people who did that. People of every color. People throughout history have sucked hard. They tend to be at their worst when taking revenge for misdeeds in the past though.

They see a normal white teenager talking about his life and their first thought is "he's a toxic white boy with privilege." Also note that the people who decry calling black men boys as racist are very quick to call a presumably 18 year old man a boy. It's even more blatant with how they call college white men boys. I'm honestly glad esquire is running these stories, and I hope they're unbiased and honest. It's refreshing to address how every type of American lives their life. Considering the blatant insertion of #MeToo and such into the subheading I'm not sure they're going to be fair-minded when asking these boys questions.

Man, hope nobody finds out bout' those 5 years I subscribed to Model Railroader in the 90's, got 70 issues and not ONCE did the cover feature a black man or transwoman!

Pretty much the same conclusion I came to with the Jeong tweets. I was like, alright, I like me some good racial jokes now and again, I can believe that she joked about white people a few times and people got a little too asshurt. Then you see the thousands of tweets she made about white people over a several year period and you realize they really just don't like white people. By their own argument, irony passes over into actual hate eventually, and it crossed that line a long time ago with these people. They'd probably make the same argument racists make and claim they have white friends, they're just criticizing the "concept of whiteness".
I really hope Gen Z ends up more accepting of each other, because as far as I see, us millennials are doomed.

I don't think it matters how much the company is making. If you are providing labor that is worth them paying you, they will pay you. If you aren't, then they would be nuts to keep you. He's bitching just because [parental figure/corporation] didn't vlaue him for just being himself. I trust a predictable system of money for value over a system of feels and impressions. The later would make me feel anxious all the time. Maybe that's why the poster is upset? He's anxious and looking to regulate that by feeling misused.
