I don't live near the most affected areas, so I did feel the quake, but it wasn't more than some moderately terrifying shaking here. In fact, at first I wasn't expecting it to be that bad and destructive, then reports started coming in, and it ended up being apocalyptic.
This quake in particular was something geologists warned about for years. The Bocono fault was under two centuries of stress and a big earthquake in this country wasn't an if, but a when.
The worst hit area is Vargas, a coastal state. The soil there is probably the worst soil you could ever build on, and yet the area was full of medium rise towers and hotels. It's also prone to natural disasters, the 99 Vargas tragedy was the worst natural disaster we had since the 1812 quake. And to boot, there's a large fault under Vargas as well. This shit was horrific and it left me scarred, but it was brewing for a long time.
