Streamers use bots to have false engagement in order to lure in people that don't know any better and give the grifter some money. Botting viewers lures in more potential fat whales and this brings in more cash. There is a psychological effect where if someone looks at a small streamer with 10-50 viewers, they are likely to either never open it, or take a peak and then close it after a couple minutes.

I'll call slight bullshit because this isn't how whales operate. Whales don't just fund something because it's popular, they will fund something despite if it's popular or not. There are gacha slop games that operate almost entirely on whales because those whales are rich & happen to like it.
