Why do people think this is an option in the first place? It's totally out of character... he's a gambler. He's not buying individual cards. The whole point is the adrenaline rush of getting a good card, he's not really thinking about the monetary value at all (except when trying to rationalize why it's a good idea to 'invest' in another pack). The next hit is just around the corner.

He's not even buying his own equipment, instead he's pulling dents in the hopes of getting another hit. His whole life revolves around this.

Somehow I get the feeling there's people who are under the impression he's not a complete retard.

You misunderstand Phil. He is a vulnerable narc, what he wants is to be somebody who gets respect. That's why he want's to be the WWE Champion, that's why he wants to be seen as a real salt-of-the-earth-streamer, a youtube pioneer, and not a dumb lolcaw like Wings or LTG with his big muscles. Because DSP wants to be somebody with status, he buys himself things that people have with status, or at least he thinks so: Big in the leaderbords of WWE Champions, a wife and a house (well, a third of it), a business line Internet connection, a real editor, serious gloths and binders for his Pokémon cards, he is working out and getting strong, like all the successful modern career folks and streams, etc. So it is totally in line for DSP to buy a card to proof that he doesn't get scammed and is a dumb mark and his status as a sophisticated Pokémon cards investor is totally legit.

tl;dr: Phil is per se not a gambler like BMJ (but he has an addictive personality), but a narc who wants to be admired and respected. Instead of putting in the work and listening to critic, he always is looking for the short cut and the short term strategy with the fast rewards.

Personally, I think this is the answer.
He can't show a receipt, because it would show a purchase of dozens of boxes.
And with that many boxes theres plenty of dud cards that he would just toss in the trash - because he had so much.

I see now how this ends. Phil is addicted to ripping packs. But he can't rip too many packs off stream, or the trolls win. And he can't rip them off stream and just lie about it, because then if he does get the rare card, he can't brag about it. So he has to figure out a way to rip them on stream as often as possible. But he can't lower the price, because then the trolls win. And the dents' wallets are looking increasingly threadbare of late. So what is a Philbert to do? Why, fake tips of course. What are your thoughts on if DSP is being sponsored by TCG card player? I saw this brought up as a possibility. He will rarely if never mention anything by name out of sheer paranoia because of his detractors, but every stream now he continuously mentions this site and how it is trustworthy etc. Do you think he was sent product by them? I'm not too sure if this is something he would even do or if anyone would even want to work with him, or maybe he's just dented and bought all this stuff and is coping.
