I've never taken a bus but I'm curious what it even costs to ride a bus for any appreciable distance. My truck is paid off, my insurance is $60 a month, I get 20 miles a gallon, so right now it costs me about $9 ($2/day for insurance+$7 in gas) to have my truck available to me to pick up groceries, and were a bus available I wouldn't be able to do it on my own time so I'm saving time there. The only public transit I've ever used was the trams in New Orleans and I did that more for the novelty because it ended up being faster to just walk most of the time, I think a two day pass was $7. The trams had the advantage of not allowing homeless people to sleep in the back because at the end of the line everyone had to get off so they could spin the seats around to travel back to the other end of the line

My state dumps BILLIONS in to our bus and commuter rail. We have dedicated express bus roads between a few cities. You can get to basically any city and large town by public transit. The state gives free bus fare to state parks and other events if your on EBT. A/C and free wifi.

I think this is an incomplete description of China's ambitions. Their direct territorial goals are somewhat restricted by their conception of what traditionally constitutes "all under heaven," but they absolutely want to compromise and subordinate other countries so that China becomes the unquestioned #1 country in the world that everyone else pays tribute to.
