Did Splinter put them up to this?

A crew of oddballs was filmed emerging from a Brooklyn sewer hole early Friday morning in a strange scene that left New Yorkers questioning their motives.

The NYPD has since launched an investigation into the gross stunt that was captured in shocking footage obtained by The Flatbush Scoop.

The video shows one person appearing to lift a manhole cover from McDonald Avenue in Gravesend before stashing it on the curb between parked cars.

Things quickly took a bizarre turn when somebody emerged from the sewer with a flashlight in hand – and then another, and another, and another appeared until seven people were milling about the roadway.

Some appeared to be wearing waders and boots, and they began stripping their apparently filthy clothes off right there on the sidewalk and piling their stuff into a trio of waiting cars.

The clip cut off from there – but the bizarre incident prompted the cops to send investigators to the neighborhood to check out the scene.

Footage from the investigation, also obtained by The Flatbush Scoop, showed cops pulling one of their fellow Finest – dressed in a masked respirator and brown-stained white coveralls — out of the ground after apparently searching the sewer.

No arrests have been made, police said.

Hours later, a crew from the city Department of Environmental Protection was seen working at the site of the mystery.

They were there “inspecting the sewer infrastructure at this location to ensure there is no damage to the system,” a DEP spokesperson told The Post in a statement.

“Entering the sewer system is both illegal and extremely dangerous. Sewers can contain numerous hazards, including noxious and potentially deadly gases, unstable surfaces, flooding risks, and confined spaces,” the statement continued.

X users were quick to crack jokes about the ordeal.

“Did any of them have…..turtle shells….on their backs?” one X user commented.

“Just the Ghostbusters checking out the slime,” another wrote.

Someone needs to explain to them that they need to get gas detectors so they don't end up suffocating from oxygen displacement, hydrogen sulfide, or any other toxic gases in the sewers. I get it that everyone in NY hates them but I hate everyone in NY so I want as many of these guys as possible to survive and keep tunneling under their infrastructure.

Be honest you just wanna see hassidic jews in full gas mask and shtreimel emerging from the ground like some nazi horror-dream.

Are underground tunnels like an eruv? Do they count as part of the home/area etc to get around on shabbat? Can you bowl in the tunnels on shabbat?

Reminds me of that scene from the second ghostbusters film where they chopped up the street to do an investigation and when asked murray said there were so many other pot holes, who would have noticed?
Lawyer Schecky Greenbaum: "Ya honoah, my clients figured there so many other fine citizens rising from the sewers on their daily business you would have to be an anti semite to be upset wit' them! By the way my faddah was a free mason and my grandfather was in the holo-"

Theme of the Sewer Jews:

...has Nintendo been lying to us for 45 years? Are Mario and Luigi actually Jewish instead of Italian?
